Are there any good beer places to check out in Niagara Falls or near Times Square? I'd love to be able to get some Westbrook while I'm visiting. Also interested in recommended restaurants (whether beer friendly or not). Cheers!
I've been Niagara Falls twice and there's nothing beer-wise on the Canadian side. And if you do find a place, be prepared to shell out some serious cash for any beer. For the American side, you'll probably have to go into Buffalo, there's not really much around Niagara falls on the American side, at least from my experiences.
Thanks for the responses, guys! I'm on the U.S. side of the falls. Sounds like I'll be waiting until I go into the city tomorrow to look for Westbrook. Cheers!
I occasionally shop at a place in Rockland County, just north of NYC, and they get some of the Westbrook stuff (but not the ones that are popular). From what the manager says, they use the same distributor as NYC, but the city accounts get the first choice, in essence. So, it looks like your best bet is definitely in NYC.
Niagara Falls actually has two new microbrews in a town 15 minutes away called virgil. Look up silversmith brewery and niagara oast house brewers. Oast has a nice beire de grade and saison as well are rotating seasonals and silversmith has a black lager and various seasonals as well. also, in niagara falls itself check out taps or the syndicate restaurant. they are the same brewer, but syndicate is more of a gastropub whereas taps is typical bar food. don't bother trying to find any good bottle shops, although the lcbo on ferry street is okay sometimes for canadian stuff. on the american side check out consumers beverages on niagara falls blvd near the outlet mall and premier gourmet in amherst (which you pass right by on your way to the falls from NYC).
The Griffon Pub on Military rd. in Niagara Falls, USA has both great food and tap list. Brickyard BBQ in Lewiston, 10 min. north of N.F. is also worth checking out.
Westbrook can always be found at Whole Foods (especially the White Thai, but often One Claw, and sometimes Gose). Whole Foods 65th and 7th often has those two
