I reviewed it too, but a couple of years earlier-

I found myself wanting the hops toned down a touch and the malt to have more presence, although it was overall favorable.

About that retailer: D-A definitely had a rabid following, so I'm sure he did alright. I remember being in the store when the owner was trying to settle down a burly biker type who just found out it was no longer available, and he wouldn't even listen to other suggestions- I'm sure there were a few more folks like him out there.

It's a nice one, seems almost a bit too light (and 'session'-able, even ), but it is very full-flavored and well balanced -- at one moment rich and sweet, but much closer to being truly dry and biscuity on the finish.
Yeah, when I tried it again for the first time in many years (2000) I recall that it lacked something, too, and I'd have to try it again to really know what 'bothered' me about it. I just recall the Pils being so much more preferable, and other Dunkels (even Warsteiner, and definitely this one) really turning my crank at the time.

Of course, when it is 'Bock season', the Dunkels take a back seat for a while, and we are getting close! :grinning:

Maybe it's gaining in popularity and they've decided to increase distribution. Sort of how Noble Pils started off seasonal, then sold so well they put it in their regular rotation. Who knew the general public could enjoy pilsners?

I did in Paso Robles early last month.

It is excellent, only a little graininess on the finish. We were there 3 days and had it 3 times - had some other FW beers that were excellent. Somehow the Pivo Pils was always calling us.

Packaged 8/5/13, which is not bad for crossing an ocean. I bought some Spaten cases at the same time dated from May. I don't think this distributer is operating at a loss...they move a lot of craft and imported beer. Maybe it was $29.99...not sure, I bought a lot of beer that day, but I'm pretty sure the Dink didn't break $30/case

Heck, at that price buy and extra case and ship it to me! :astonished:

But seriously: Dinkel Acker in 500 mL cans might just permanently wean me off of my cheap Bitburger fix...

One cheap*, domestic dark that I sometimes mention to regional BAs is Leinenkugel's Creamy Dark.

I'm enjoying one now as part of a fresh Winter Sampler (there's Hoppin Helles in there, so Hip, hop hooray!)

Sure, Miller owns Leinie's so they're "Crafty", and thus an affront to all the Right, Good, and Just that this very website stands for, but so be it. Tonight it was either this or some Huber Bock or a cheap-as-hell 'Pabst brand' that I'm too shy to mention twice in one day.

(* On sale around $9.99 or less. And sure it bumps an honest, artisanally-crafted, Dunkel off the shelf whilst simultaneously depriving orphans in Africa of good sustenance, but no foolin': there are few Craft Dunkels)
