Has anyone seen any OHTT:Topaz cans around in shops anywhere? I have a friend in St. Louis looking for a few 4pks and didn't know if anyone had seen any around.

    Thanks!

Redstone had OHTT Topaz a week ago. Doubt they have any left by now.

Nightshift cant open its new "annex" soon enough. Going there when there is any sort of event is a nightmare, It's way to crowded and lines are way to long. Went this morning to get a flight and a couple bottles of Ever Weiss and it was a mad house. It took 15 minutes to get a flight and they wouldn't let me get one for my GF who was sitting like 3 ft. from the bar so i had to wait in line twice to get us both beer.

That said. the beer is awesome. Loved the simple sour stuff and OHTT Citra is delicious!

Did you tell her to come up to the bar once you found out they would not sell to you? If so I can't see why they would not sell you each a flight, never have had that happen before.

2 seats had opened up right at that rail by the bar when i got to the front of the line so she grabbed the 2 seats so we had a place to sit. I could have turned around and handed her the flight but Im sure its some sort of MA law or something so its fine. The real complaint is the bartender i dealt with was kinda rude about it.

The bar kind of lends itself to people lining up in the middle, but just go up to the bar anywhere and you'll get service much faster.

They will pour and sell you two flights, but you have to carry them away one at a time.

thats what i usually do but it was SLAMMED this afternoon and was backed up 2 or 3 people deep all the way around.

not today. the guy wouldn't even pour me 2 flights.

I understand that can be frustrating. But I would cut them some slack during a release day, although I've been to a couple (including Apple Brandy El Lechedor) and it didn't seem that out of control. I've also been to Ever Weisse last year, and Oktoberfest.

The other reason to cut them some slack, it was oppressively hot yesterday and it gets very warm in there. I imagine they were an exhausted and sweaty mess running around trying to accommodate the crowd.

Yes, the lines are long. Yes it's a nightmare on release days. The annex won't really help this issue... it'll let more people into the building (which is good, shorter lines outside the building), but the number of bartenders available is going to only increase proportionally. It's not like there will be fewer people being served by more servers... Sure you could bounce from one bar to the other to try and get quicker service, but in the end they'll both be mobbed.

Most likely the issue of not selling a flight for your GF was not knowing who the second flight was for and more specifically if they were over 21. I dont see a problem with them being very careful about those sorts of things, especially on a release day when it's mobbed... they don't need some random inspection to catch something silly like that.

In general, I avoid flights on Release Days or otherwise really busy days for the simple reason that it takes so long and slows the ENTIRE bar down. 1 or two full sized pours is much faster than trying to get 4 or 8 little pours from multiple faucets. Granted they have a massive selection that is always changing and we all want to try it all.... BUT, pick something and get a full pour and come back on a Tuesday or Wednesday when you can actually enjoy your flight.

There was no line to get in so having that additional space will help out. There will be more seating, there will be more draft lines, and most likely additional bartenders to pour beer from the additional tap lines.

The bartender could see my GF as we were sitting at the rail right near the bar, she showed her stamp and he still refused. It's fine I'm sure it's some sort of MA law and it's all good, just giving my experience.

As for how I decide to order my beer, they are pretty efficient when you order flights and I don't have the liberty of going there when ever, so I like I try a few things. If they feel like flights are slowing everything down maybe they shouldn't offer them on busy days?

As I said, I drank great beer, got a place to sit and enjoy the beer, got can's and bottles to go and overall had a great experience. It's obviously so busy because they have great beer and a great spacec can't fault them for that!

Does anyone know if Night Shift sells by the can, a la Trillium? Or do they only sell 4-packs. Visiting this weekend and was hoping to snag a few singles.

Night Shift only sells four packs at the brewery. You might try calling a Boston Craft Beer cellar to see what they have in stock as they sell a lot of singles.

I've seen singles of Night Shift available at Fort Point Market next to Trillium if you are going to that area.

Does Whirlpool ever sell out at the brewery? I know a fresh batch just dropped this week, just wondering how long it might last.

    Thanks!

It should last a while as it's not a limited release.
