Oh no, I agree. I was just saying that if it is a big release from a well known you place you either need to be prepared to wait or take a pass.

Awesome to hear you enjoyed the latest Morph. What hours do you wish we were open? We are open nearly 80 hours a week - and 6 days a week we are open for 12 hours!

What can I say, some of us like to drink more than 80 hours per week...

Just wanted to say my wife and I were at the brewery for the first time this Saturday and had a great time. I've had lots of Night Shift beer, but hadn't made it to the brewery yet. Great beer (I had a Timbo Slice and a Santilli) and great space (food and games)!

Quick question folks - Going to hit up Night Shift for the first time on Saturday 7/30. Are there typically cans available (like Santilli, Morph)? Or do those sell out the day they are released?

Morph and the OHTT cans usually stick around a while and it seems like the always have cans of Santilli, Whirlpool, The 87 and Furth available.

They don't sell out the day they are released, but it looks like the last Morph is gone.
They canned Santilli last Wednesday so that one should still be around, along with Whirlpool and a few of their One Hop This Time beers, and The 87 is still in cans as of now.

We try our best to always have our main crew of beers for sale in cans. Sometimes they run out before the next batch but it's not normal. Next batch of Morph is coming out around the 28/29.

OHTT Simcoe was just packaged yesterday and tasting amazing. Might be my personal favorite OHTT to date. Tastes like hoppy fuzzy peach-ness.

Thank you all for the info. Looking forward to trying a bunch of these!

Wasn't one of the hoppy offerings I mentioned, but the only Night Shift I've tasted was Ever Weisse a while back and I loved it

Sounds like an ampted up Whirlpool, any similarities?

Might swing by this weekend to try the Zwickel and pick up/try some Simcoe.

What I meant by open longer, was longer nights on the weekend. Perhaps like normal bar hours on the weekend? The place was still packed at 11 and easily could of stayed open a couple more hours with a steady flow of business. Also with lines forming around 10 and a hard 11 close, leaves customer's with under an hour to get drinks. This could be the city stopping you being open so late but I personally think from a business perspective you would see more sales being open later in the night and open around 1PM. I got in right around 9:55 and saw at least 10 customers leave the line because it was closing at 11.

I could be wrong, but I've been living in Somerville (granted this is Everett, but I'm sure it's a similar crowd) for 7 years now. The majority of bars in that area empty out almost completely around 11 - 12 (oftentimes much earlier than this too). Nightshift seems to attract that young professional (25 - 35) crowd, and families. Bars I go to like Redbones, Foundry, Olde Magoun's...etc. are all very empty around that time.

The ones that stay open and are full are ones that attract that < 25 crowd at the Joshua Tree and the Burren for example. I don't think that is the majority of their customers, it's not the same type of place. Many of those in that < 25 crowd want loud music (DJ's, top hits, dancing) and cheap drafts/shots. I don't see them staying at Nightshift drinking craft beer and playing board games until 1 am.

Maybe, I'm just going from my experience and I was there up till 11 and it was still packed and everyone looked like they would be open to stay for another drink if it was open. When you have a line till 10 and your only open till 11, I think they could make a lot more sales. I've also been to aeronaut and have been till close to close which was 12 and it was still pretty busy. Personally I think if it was possible to stay open till 12/12:30 , they would see a lot more business during the extra hour/hour and half then they do in their first two hours of business.

Speaking specifically about weekends, I will say that I've shown up just as they were opening for the day on a normal (no big bottle release) weekend and seen them at capacity with a line out the door a number of times. Most weekends in the spring/summer that I've gone within 60-90 minutes of opening the tap room was full.

I do think if it was feasible for NSB to stay open later they would. Most taprooms in the area aren't open past 11 AFAIK. Aeronaut & Slumbrew being the exception. Maybe CBC is open to midnight a few days a week too..

Fair enough, I've never been there that early but I mean if you have a packed house and everyone's having a great time, why not stay open later if possible? Like I said this was my first time there and I heard Multiple groups of people commenting about 11 hard close. Just simple feedback, I would have gladly spent another hour there and I think a lot of others would as well.

I hear ya, @pintsandtrainers and my intent was not to come off as attacking. I am on the opposite end of you, i wish more breweries with taprooms opened earlier, but that is mostly due to me being an anti-social db who'd rather be there when the sun is out :grinning:

No worries man, I would like to go in the day but live in the boonies and usually visit for weekend trips so night time is easier, also most of my friends aren't big day drinkers. I just think if they have the licenses to stay open they should give it a practice run. I went with a group of friends none of which are crazy about craft beer/knowledgeable about it but they loved the beer and the environment and were even bummed about the 11PM hard close.

We legally have the ability to be open till 1am but chose to close earlier. Partly because we want a good quality of life for our taproom team but also because of the type of problems that come later in the evening.

We don't want to be the last stop of everyone's night, we want to be the first stop. The later we stay open the more issues we tend to see. So it's a balancing act of meeting what our customers want and what is best for our staff.

We aren't focused on making the most money possible. That's never been our mission. We are focused on making the best beer, the best customer experience and having the best staff who love their workplace(i.e. See recent news about 401k plan for all staff including part time bartenders!) That's our goal.

Sorry for the late reply - been in Germany and Prague!

    Cheers,
    Rob
