Fluffy release this friday. Is walking from the orange line a suicide mission? Seems like that rotary is not pedestrian friendly to say the least.

You can walk, as far as walking in a rotary goes, it's not that bad. It's driving through there that's dangerous.

The 97/99/106/110/112 buses all head east from Wellington and stop right on the other side of the rotary if one is waiting when you get there.

I've walked to Night Shift from Tufts before and it's not bad. If i remember correctly there's construction on one half of the bridge leading up to the rotary so stay on the orange line side both ways. The rotary itself isnt that bad as long as you pay attention to traffic

The rotary has signaled pedestrian crossings, it's not nearly the pedestrian deathtrap some folks make it out to be. The bridge over the Malden River always struck me as the least pleasant bit of the walk from Wellington.

I just checked, Uber Pool says $3.37 to go from Wellington to Nightshift.

I think pretty much every brewery would call their own beer "world class", its kind of like a parent saying "I have the best kids". I know of one brewer who checks his own beers in on untappd and rates them all as 4.5 to 5's as well as comments on how great they are. Some of his beers really are in the 4.5 to 5 range but not all of them. He makes both exceptional beers as well as mediocre beers.

Now that being said I do agree the term is thrown around too much. You also need to differentiate a world class beer from a world class brewery. What makes a brewery world class? If they make only world class IPA's but no other style or their other styles are mediocre are they a world class brewery? What about if they make really good beers across all styles but none of them are exceptional? Night Shift is still one of my favorite breweries, I'm not sure if I'm qualified to declare them world class or not but I get excited every time I see them post a new release and have visited them more than any other brewery I've been to.

I made my first visit to Night Shift today, and partook in several brewery only releases, goddamn, every beer was absolutely delicious. El Lechedor is every bit as good as Prairie Bomb in my mind, Everweisse is the rare sour that I really liked (and bought a bottle of), Low Talker is a solid Kolsch, Carnival is deeeelicious, I didn't expect much from it. A salted porter with Vanilla didn't sound great to me on paper, but it tasted like a sea-salt caramel.

I can't wait to go back.

Uinta came out with a Lime Pilsner recently as well so maybe these are starting to bubble up a little into the craft consciousness the same way the corn adjunct/Mexican lagers are.

I bought some on a whim to bring to a friend's house who loves Bud Light Lime. We both thought it was okay but he still preferred BLL (and I actually don't mind BLL either as a sort of mildly alcoholic seltzer-ish product).

I assume I'll bring him some of this new Night Shift stuff too

I noticed a local brewery with a lime summer beer as well. Seems to be becoming a thing. It was refreshing.

Using the word 'lite' seems to really be asking for trouble.

This is just their Nite Lite (an adjunct light lager), aged with limes. So, Bud Light Lime, literally. Except I don't know how Anheuser Busch adds lime to the beer, or how Nightshift does it. But their Nite Lite is the same style as Bud Light, Coors Light...etc. I like it a lot better, but same style.
For what it's worth, I dig Bud Light Lime too, drank the shit out of those in Vegas at the MGM pool.

Has any craft brewery had a true crossover success with an AAL-ish styled beer yet? If these caught on with the non or crafty crowd in the area that would be a whole new level.

Price is probably still the biggest barrier though at least as far as home consumption goes. My friend who drinks BLL keeps a 30 pack of that and Mich Ultra in his fridge and those probably cost the same as 8 Night Shift beers. Draft might be a more likely arena, especially at concerts/sports events.

ETA: Have you had their Kolsch? I'd be curious what you thought of it.

I was more referring to 'Lite' in the context of a potential legal scuffle with Miller.

I'd also imagine lime juice or peel or a combo being the driving force behind the flavor. BL lime isn't bad in the right venue but does come off a bit fake in the lime flavor.

Maybe the "Lite Brite" based art on the can was a conscious effort to give themselves an out if Miller came calling?

I'm probably dating myself by recognizing the lite brite reference.....

Perhaps, but I believe Miller has trademarked the word lite. Not sure the can art could save them in that case.

You are dating yourself. I owned one. :slight_frown:

Maybe Narragansett? PBR seemed to get a good crossover appeal, although I don't think anyone considers them craft.

I also don't know that this would be a good thing, since craft beer spent the better part of the last two decades trying to make beer that WASN'T a light rice/corn adjunct beer. While I don't mind these beers, I'll take a true Pilsner using a heavy dose of Pils malt instead of corn/rice, and a beer that actually has a noticeable hop presence.

Nope, not yet. Might swing by this weekend. Also, I feel German styles tend to take time to really dial in. Their Pfaffenheck is by far my favorite German style that they produce, and it's been around for awhile. Their Oktoberfest also was far better this year than the previous year.

That being said, if I do go, I'm absolutely going to try it. In a similar vein, I also feel they've had too many new releases the last few months, the tap list is a bit daunting with 25 something taps on the board (and 10 - 15 IPAs).

Part of me likes to see a new beer to try, but the other part of me knows it can take some breweries time to truly perfect a recipe.

Ah, yeah, hadn't thought of that.

Maybe peel because it was aged?

Yes, BL Lime does have a fake lime flavor to it, but I also remember I'm drinking Bud Light Lime.

Don't worry, I remember Lite Brite too...
