Only cascade's lacto could withstand these IBU. My 1st "review" was hop candy. It shifted to pineapple Greek yogurt on day two.

Different grain bill, hop swap, and yeast adjustment...why bother keeping the same name vs. creating a new brand and adjusting amounts production of the original 87? That works for a brand line where the consumer knows there is variability (i.e., Morph), but for consumers not buying 87 frequently or keeping up with brewery updates this seems like a weird approach.

Looks like Night Shift is releasing Darkling on Black Friday, with a coffee variant and a maple cinnamon variant. I might have to head over after picking up some BCBS that morning.

That Maple Cinnamon Darkling sounds delicious. Sign me up for a post-Thanksgiving visit to Night Shift

It might have to replace my BCBS morning...I haven't seen any of last year's stores posting any events or information about this year's batch, but a Darkling release would be a fantastic alternative.

Anyone heard anything about how the new "Barrel Society" will work for these releases?

Barrel-aged beer releases. All barrel-aged beers will now be a part of our Barrel Society (including Darkling, El Lechedor, etc). The public will still have a chance to purchase the majority of these beers, but a portion of all bottles will be pre-sold via the NSBS '18 email list. If you're looking to get exclusive, early access, the Barrel Society is your ticket!

I really hope this is an option since I will be out of town for the holiday. Darkling is the one NS release I make sure I get each year. Would be a shame to miss out because I'm out of state.

Wishful thinking since I will be in NH for the holiday.

Second Breakfast is brilliant. Massive chocolate toffee milky porter flavours. Now toss a bunch of it into bourbon barrels please!

Or put it in apple brandy barrels and do this again.

    Man, that was good.

So how crowded at open do y'all think tomorrow will be for Darkling? I've actually never been to the brewery so I'm not even sure what it's usually like on a normal day. Thanks!

Not sure what to expect either. A normal weekend day there can be busy and parking in the neighborhood is sometimes an issue ... I've certainly driven by before, looked for a spot, come up empty and NOPE'd out of there. Assume tomorrow will be at peak levels considering they're doing a beer release and A LOT of people are off work.

That having beer said, I enjoy Darkling and I'll certainly drive by mid-afternoon to see if I can find parking if they have bottles left ... but no case counts make me curious about how much they actually have.

Going to swing by for a few drafts of whatever's available this afternoon. Hopefully no line!

I grabbed 2 bottles of each at about 11:20am. Only 2 folks in the line in front of me. Maybe a dozen in the regular pour line.

Nooo! Sometimes you just gotta let a Baltic Porter be a Baltic Porter. Straight up Framinghammer is so much better than any variants. Second Breakfast is such a delicious, nuanced beer. No need for additional depth.

    Not everything needs barrel aging.
