Anyone pick up El Lechador today?

I didn't see it on tap online.

Strolled in around 11:30 a.m. Very chill at that point, empty in the main taproom. Picked up my bottles and headed home.

They didn't have it on tap until tonight -- they're having some party for it, selling cellar bottles of the '15 and '16 as well. Kind of bummed I couldn't try it on tap when I picked up my bottles, but I suppose I could have gone next weekend.

Tasting very nice on tap. Cinnamon, apple crisp, chcolate cake, mild peppers, and very smooth.

I picked up my bottles around 330 yesterday and asked if it was on tap, they were nice enough to give me a small pour since I had bought bottles.

That said, I did NOT enjoy it on tap, it was overwhelming boozy to the point that it wasn’t really worth drinking. I hope the bottles aren’t that bad.

That's why I want to try it on tap and hold on to the bottles for a little while.

Picked up my bottles last night and had a sample of the 16 and 18. Both were good but the 18 needs some time. Confirmed that I will probably wait until Thanksgiving to open my first bottle.

I had the opposite thought. I tried the 16 on tap and thought it was too muted while the fresh 18 on bottle was fantastic. Both were very good but I prefer the spice of the peppers and the taste of the brandy. Though that's the great thing about having the 16 on tap so that you can appreciate it both ways. I would now be interested to have another bottle to try in about 6 months or so to see how it is somewhere between the fresh hotness and the 2 year old muted flavors.

Grabbed a bunch of stuff today. Anton is a nice malty Vienna. But Jesus this is a well spicy Viva.

The latest One Hop Mosaic is superb. All that lovely berry tastiness.

Good to hear, I've got a keg of it sitting in my kegerator waiting to be tapped. Driving my kids and their friends around has kept me from tapping it! Hoping to be drinking it in about 45 minutes!

Went to the "Lovejoy" event today. Essentially 4 separate IPAs to try, vote on your favorite and the one with most votes becomes their flagship in their new brewery.

A west coast, a brut, two NE IPAs.

Number 1, The west cost was pretty tasty.

Number 2, First time having a Brut and it was interesting. Clean, stripped of all malt sugars, slightly hoppy.

Number 3, a NEIPA tasted like butter toffee. Terrible.

Number 4 NEIPA had little to write home about. Smooth mouthfeel with little flavor from the hops. Instantly forgettable "beige" ipa.

The two NEIPAs were essentially pretty terrible.

So 4 beers, one of which will be a flagship. The best was middling to average, the worst seemed infected.

    Pretty awful selection of beers.

FWIW the jars containing the votes showed number 1 the west coast to be way out in front.

So pretty tasty = middling to average? I'm trying to understand this rating scale.

This might sound like blasphemy to some, but I personally don't think hoppy beers are their strong suit. Not that ratings are the defining factor, but their highest rated hoppy beer is Buzz at 4.29. That's not particularly high for a double IPA, not even that high for a single IPA.

Granted their beers are easier to come by than most, but still, when was the last hop forward beer release they had that you absolutely HAD to go to the brewery to buy?

I'm not necessarily slamming them, they do A LOT of things well, from how they run their business to the beers they brew. I just don't think hoppy beer is where they excel.

I've definitely had some excellent IPAs from them, but they've also been inconsistent enough that I don't bother anymore.

Specifically I loved the 7/1/16 Morph (it was so good I remember the date it was brewed) and the first Idaho 7 batch they brewed. Oh, and also the Morph that ranked second in Paste's blind tasting of session IPAs.

But there's been a lot of misses for me for quite some time now.
