I could probably write a book about how many times people falsely taste diacetyl in a beer. Got to be the go-to-word when someone doesn't like a beer these days.

For what's it worth - all our beers go thru diacetyl testing and sensory testing. None of them 4 IPA released on Sunday contain diacetyl.

Everyone perceives flavors differently so its totally possible so didn't jive with the flavor profile but its not because of diacetyl presence.

    Cheers!

Coincidentally, there's a thread in the New England forum titled, "Burlington Beer Company Diacetyl?"

FWIW I had a can of Fluffy (not sure which batch, might have been late winter/early spring) that had diacetyl 100%. None of the lovejoy beers I had yesterday tasted anything like what I tasted in the can of Fluffy. I may still have a can in the back of my fridge because I couldn’t stomach drinking the 2nd can I got.

That sound to be around the time I experienced a buttery toffee flavor from Fluffy. Maybe not diacetyl but definitely not how previos or the most recent tasted.

I have made an all citra/mostly citra IPA a few times. One time it tasted slightly like diacetyl. I thought I screwed something up. However, I have since tasted it in a few commercial all citra beers. There is something about some Citra hops that sometimes gives me a slight buttery flavor. Not sure if this is related or not, just think it is kind of fascinating. I have never had this happen with any other hop that I know of.

That happens with me and Nelson. It seems I can only have a blonde/light pale like Eureka w/Nelson, or a non-DDH DIPA like Hobbit Juice. Anything else and I get butter; based on the good reception from most IPAs where this happens it seems to be a "me" problem.

With all of the talk of the Lovejoy beers how do they compare to Santilli or 87? I haven't had the new 87 but I've had a lot of Santilli (a few sixth barrels at home over the past year). Santilli isn't their best beer but its a very solid and very consistent beer IMHO. I'd say Santilli is a modern IPA but fairly balanced, some bitterness but not overly so. An East Coast IPA but not an NEIPA. To me its a perfect signature beer, brewed all the time and at high volume. It can sit on the shelf a bit without losing quality, which to me is a good thing for a signature beer.

So to me the Lovejoy beers don't have to blow you away, they just need to be "pretty tasty". The limited release beers should at least try to blow you away. Its been a while since I've loved a Morph but given the nature of it that's not surprising. I just put in an order for keg of Morph so we'll see how that goes. I just finished up OHTT Mosaic, I really enjoyed that beer. It was a bit sweeter than I like to be honest but that's the nature of Mosaic. The hoppiness of this release I found to be really good, I'm not sure I've experienced that amount of hoppiness in a NS beer before and it was really enjoyable.

    Lovejoy #4 won.

From what I recall, a bland unremarkable band wagon jumping NEIPA.

    Now it's a flagship beer.

On the bright side, the winner wasn't #2 or #3...

Had it at the brewery yesterday.

Hit it right on the head, was pretty forgettable. Just another beer.

On the positive side I’m really liking fresh Santilli recently & it tasted great on-site.

Just to be clear - it will be just one of ~30 beers on tap. The sky isn't falling if you didn't like the "bland NEIPA". There will be plenty of other great core beers and one-offs flowing.

Anyone had the collab with Mast Landing, "It’s too damn hot for a penguin to be just walking around here."?

Looks like it's getting some distro

I got it at my store in Kingston. Tried it the other night. Was tasty definitely but liked Mirage and Craigerator better. Taste is subjective tho!

Went for the first time in probably about a 9 months last night and their pale ale "Melody" is spot on. I'm generally a bigger fan of NS's non-hoppy beers than their hoppy ones but I'd buy this regularly if they put it in cans. Really an almost perfect NE style pale in the 5% range. Kehl was tasting great on a cool Halloween night on the (pleasantly nearly empty) patio too.

In less fun news I was sad to see that the days of $6 pints appear to be over for everything except Night Light. I don't blame them, and their current pricing is still pretty attractive compared to most (all?) of their peers (especially considering the true 16 ounce pours), but that $6 pint felt like such a deal in this pricey city that it still sucks to see it go.
