Best of luck in your new venture! Very exciting for craft beer lovers in MA. Would love to see some better distribution from RI like Grey Sail and Proclamation for example.

A former Bissell Bros delivery driver just launched a distributorship to distribute Bissell (and other) beers in Maine. I like this trend and wish NSB the best of luck with this new venture :-)

That's seriously awesome. I don't know enough about the industry to have any specific animus towards distributors, but let's just say the shenanigans in the legislature and the apparent lack of common sense/decency in the contracts does not paint them in a good light.

Best of luck with the new venture!

Big fan of what Night Shifts been doing and I'm eager to see how this goes!

Wonder if Craft Collective saw this coming?

Love the grumbling from the distro lobby guy.

    Good luck NSD...give'em hell.

    From the article:
"Bill Kelley, president of the Beer Distributors of Massachusetts, welcomed Night Shift to the marketplace."

“While it’s peculiar to see this announcement being used as a vehicle to attack the very industry they are entering, we are hopeful that one day NSD achieves sufficient growth and success to be considered for membership in this association.”

Doesn't sound like a particularly warm welcome. I'm hard-pressed to think of how that could be more condescending. "Hopefully you'll experience enough success to be part of our club". Good grief.

Anyway, love NS beers and here's hoping you can open distro to NH since many brewers do not.

I found it hilarious, a classic "you'll never make it unless you do what we've been doing for years without change" and almost accusing them of favoritism before they even have other breweries signed.

“We’ve learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone,” he said. “PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.” - Palm CEO Ed Colligan, 2006, on Apple's prospects in the smartphone market.

Yeah guys, Night Shift doesn't know what they're doing. That's why all their beer is sold before yours even gets to the shelves.

Unfortunate that the draconian and protectionist regulations forced your hand a bit. But all the best, nonetheless.

This is very exciting stuff for our local scene. Knowing NSB for a while now, they are all smart, savvy guys who also happen to make amazing beers. They are going to find a lot of great stuff for us to drink!

    Congrats.

With a little more included context this is probably a big enough deal to be posted to the main board (Beer News perhaps?).

I'll leave it to someone with more seniority to decide though.

Sounds cool and I wish them luck. My initial concerns related to entering a market that I believe has a significant union component. Trying to disrupt the Teamsters might be harder than they think.

Hard to give Proclamation better distro with the limited volumes available. More landing next week... but again, super limited.

Not as much change as you'd think, since every brewery currently available in MA is stuck with their old distributors for life more or less.

It's an interesting idea - like a lot of previous posts, I wish them the best. I also agree that many breweries are so stuck into the mud with current contracts that they might not be able to move on this.

I hope (and might even suspect) that N.S. moved on this after assuring enough support from smaller operations that aren't shipping yet. It would be interesting, for example, if the road to eastern MA passed through N.S. for folks like post-expansion TH, or new shops that are still in-house only (like a Winter Hill or a Merrimack.)

There's plenty of breweries in MA who haven't yet signed on with a distributor.
