Had my first Night Stalker last night and I loved the level of hops you could taste while still clearly being a great imp. stout. (hops there, but not strong) For those who have had both beers, does Narwhal have a similar hop level? I've been on the fence about picking up some Narwhal at the local shops here, but for really no other reason than that I've got a fridge full of other imp. stouts and the like to get through at the moment. Thinking I need to reconsider... Thanks!!

Just had my first NightStalker two nights ago and I would say definitely give the Narwhal a shot. I think I'd pick it everytime over the GI. Especially when you get 4 versus the one for about the same money, makes it a no-brainer for me. Pretty similar beers though. FWIW, neither touches Ten Fidy

FWIW, Nightstalker is insanely hopped. It might not be apparent because it's obviously also very thick and rich. I don't think Narwhal is nearly as hopped, but for the price I'd definitely say it's worth a try.

Narwhal is definately pretty solid, already bought a case cuz I love me some Sierra Nevada and it seems like it will age well, but to me it doesnt have near the hoppiness that Night Stalker has. Night Stalker also has much stronger citrus-like hoppy flavors than Narwhal.

If you're putting Narwhal and Night Stalker in the same sentence, I truly need to try Narwhal. Night Stalker is one my very favorite non-BA stouts.

I taste plenty of hops, but not overwhelming.

The Narhwal isn't nearly as hoppy. Both beers are delicious.

Has gi re-released night stalker? Have some 2 year olf bottles that are not hoppy at all. What is with this trend of hoppy imp stouts? Even last years abyss was really hoppy.

IMO, Narwhal was a boozy mess. I have 1 more bottle of the 4 pack that i'm sitting on to let age for a bit to see if it gets better. Even though i didn't really like it i would recommend picking up atleast 1 4 pack. It's relatively cheap and alot of ppl really like it.

Scratch both and pick up Ten Fidy! In all seriousness, never had GI but im predicting Narwhal will age into something beautiful. Still great now though.

Narwhal has nowhere near the amount of hop presence as Night Stalker.

Really? I just had my last one and I barely noticed any alcohol, which is really impressive considering I've had many beers that are less alcoholic but much hotter. 10.2% and no burn? Sign me up!

You should try Sweet 16 and Old Viscosity. 16% and 10%, and virtually zero heat! Sooo good!

Gotta grab me a couple more before their gone.

    definitely.

is it just me or is this years nightstalker way more hoppy than the last? the last one, even when fresh was overly sweet to me.

this years on the other hand has a super pungent hop aroma and a taste to match (simcoe maybe?)...i loved it and will be picking up more bottles soon.
