I had a Southern Tier IPA on nitro recently and it blew my mind, it was fantastic. It had all the characteristics of a great ipa but with an added "butteryness" to it. That was the first and only time I've seen an IPA on nitro. Anyone else had a hoppy nitro experience? Tech question...is beer brewed a different way for nitro or at least kegged differently? Can any beer keg get put on a nitro tap?

I just had an Odell 5 Barrel Pale Ale on nitro tap at the bar....had the complete opposite reaction, did not enjoy it one bit. I will stick with malt forward stuff for my nitro offerings.

MOJO nitro is very common here and is much better than from a bottle.

Had Deschutes Inversion IPA on nitro up in Minneapolis last winter. Was amazing!

Yes, any keg can be put on nitro. It is just a different way to carbonate and dispense the beer. Nitro makes smaller bubbles so the beer feels thicker on the tounge.

I had an Epic Hopulent IPA on nitro early this year & liked it. I definitely noticed it tasting really smooth. I haven't had a bottle of it so I can't speak for how different it was, but I dug it & would like to try more.

Yes and no. If it is a commercial keg that has already been carbed with CO2, then putting it on nitro will have little effect until most of the CO2 already in solution escapes somehow.

Had Victory Hop Devil Nitro at Bob's Bar in CBUS, OH. Totally different experience than co2. Tastes a bit creamy but sort of like its a flat which was nice. The finishing bitterness was nuts, I tasted the hops on my tongue for what felt like an hour.

I'm a fan of IPAs on nitro. Mojo is great and o'so puts one on here locally.

Last night I had a nitro Founder's Pale Ale, it was good. But not as good as the IPA.

Had Denver Brewing Co's Mojo Risin' on nitro a few weeks back. Tasted like dishsoap. Super disappointed. All citrus. No bitterness, no malt. Just citrus and foam. Terrible.

Nitro does change the beer some. they had allot founders side by side at beer world 1 on Nitro and 1 on co2, was very interesting difference. I enjoyed the PA on Nitro more sadly.

Dorado on nitro was great. Of course, Dorado on regular tap is also great.

good God nitro dispense is the third rail of BA. prepare yourself.

Nitro is inert. a lot of the appeal, other than the obvious difference in texture that small nitro bubbles provide, is the lack of CO2 bite. CO2 has a something of a metallic bite in both taste and odor. remove 75% of the CO2 gas in the beer and flavor and aroma changes in addition to the texture.

personally, nitro dispense has its place. but it is more gimmick than anything when applied to the majority of beer styles.
    Cheers.

Sounds interesting. I don't recall seeing any IPA on nitro in my area yet. I'll definitely give it a try when I see it.

agree with JoelK. had my first experience with this a few weeks ago, the Hop Devil nitro as well & it had a mouthfeel like id never felt. not blown away by the beer, (hop devil is already a great beer) but blown away by what the nitro does to it. creamy & smooth balances with the hops so the bitterness turns into all flavor.

never had one, but it sounds like it would work really well. I would also like to try a weissbier on nitro

Quigley's Pint and Plate (a local brewpub) in Pawleys Island SC has a Swamp Fox IPA that I enjoy; not world class but I like it. They had it on a nitro tap back in the spring. I thought it ruined it: All I got was the harsh hops without any malt to ease my burning tongue. I have noticed they have not had it on nitro since.
