I was there as well. Thought I'd make the "schlep" from Philly due to their very attractive Black Friday lineup. Showed up at 8:20am (9am opening) and the expected 100 people or so already in line. Only ended up with 1 base and 1 Barleywine by the time I got to the table:grimacing:
However I did find a 4 pack of Olde School Barleywine which I love so not a total loss.
Then added another bottle of BCBS at a different store.
End of my rant...and chasing for BCBS.. Trading in the future!
BTW: What's up with the lower ABV on both BCBS and Barleywine this year?

They were tapped out of BC by 9:30.

I was about 40th in line. I got there before 6:30.

It was cordial, but crowded. Most people said better than last year, overall.

I go to NYC a couple times a year, and they have plenty of base. I guess last year I got spoiled, 1 4 pk of coffee and between 2 other local stores they got 3 cases of barley wine and I managed to have a free flow of barley wine between them until they ran out in March….

I hate to deal with begging IE trading for variants… But I know its worse in other areas so Happy Thanksgiving.

Yea, I was the first one in line there, really happy I got Vanilla. I will say I had a '13 Barleywine last week and thought it was much improved to it fresh, so I wouldn't be too bummed : )

I went after lunch and I asked if they had any of the carton or any bc left, they didn't, I wasn't expecting them to either

Man I'd be pissed if I was getting '13 right now under the impression it was gonna be this years. I know the reg and barley wine age well but wtf are these stores doing? It could def be worse but what's the deal?

Canals line started at 330 and grew steadily. I was able to get all variants and a backyard rye. As for the firestone walkers and cinnamon w'n'b those flew off the shelf faster than anything.

I agree, '13 BW is tasting very good now, but I have a few '13 BW still so I really just wanted this year's batch.

Also, I do not think it is the stores fault, I think it is GI as I know shops in NYC and NJ, plus a friends said same thing happening in Georgia...

Also I wound up picking up a six of Mad Elf because it was priced at regular retail after seeing it gouged like crazy everywhere else. Whoops. I forgot how gross this beer is.

What is it about South Jersey that people go absolutely nuts for it? Everywhere I saw it was 25-40 for a sixpack with limit one per customer. It's not even rare, but in SJ people flip for the Elf.

You'll be able to get cases of mad elf for like 80 or 90 bucks from Philly beer distributors any time you want for months to come. I don't understand either why SJ goes nuts for it.

Mad elf is like 55-65$ a case.

I'm sure you understand that rarity is not directly correlated with subjective tastes, especially with the majority of people who do not hunt beer. I'd guess that a lot of people who buy mad elf are not aware of this website and heard about the beer from Philly radio and newspapers who talk about it every holiday season. So, they drive up demand and product goes quickly at stores.

I would have to believe that most people who buy mad elf aren't crossing bridges to buy cases of the stuff. Most of us who do cross bridges for beer are rare individuals. That's why we taste better.

Is it safe to say SJ isn't getting a shipment of vanilla rye this year? We got backyard rye last year.

Just got a call from my local shop in Southern Monmouth County- they got regular, BW and coffee but said no vanilla. 1 each per customer, had a very long list so I wouldnt anticipate much hitting shelves.

I'm finding it interesting that noone in NJ has seen much vanilla- where the heck is this stuff all going!?!?

FWIW the shop I am referencing does a TON of Goose Island distro so the argument that it's because they dont distro enough GI isn't valid.
