Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this but if anyone else was interested I made this google doc showcasing (almost) every NJ brewery and their most popular, highest rated, and highest rated with 100 reviews (to filter out some firkins) according to untappd ratings. I mostly did this cause i was curious personally but I figured I'd might as well share this somewhere. Let me know if you want me to make any adjustments or add anything to the sheet. I have it set up as sorted by brewery rating https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1u7CLwBDw6-tluZuhDzGh29WlwKSBBTGuKNcItwpebC0/edit#gid=0 I couldnt quickly figure out how to make it uneditable yet sortable so if you would like to sort by different categories here is a link to make a copy of the list. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1u7CLwBDw6-tluZuhDzGh29WlwKSBBTGuKNcItwpebC0/copy Cheers
As a spreadsheet nerd, I can certainly appreciate this. Thank you. Backward Flag is being very overvalued on Untappd. Their not bad, just not that great when I visited a few months ago.
Nice work. It's amazing how many on that list have just opened within the last 2 years or so. Also sad to see that one of my favorites, The Ship Inn, doesn't get much love.
This is fun to go through, thanks for posting. I'm sure you've probably seen this, but NJ.com did an article on the top 15 breweries in NJ based on their untappd ratings back in June. I see that the rankings have already changed a bit since then.
I find it interesting that out of the 67 breweries listed here only 3 have the same beer listed as their "Most Popular" and "Top Rated >100". And those 3 are relatively newer breweries/beers. Twin Elephant - Diamonds and Pearls. Only 262 ratings. Slack Tide - Angry Osprey. Only 491 ratings. Birravino - Etna. Only 130 ratings.
That Diamonds and Pearls is so good. Birravino's highest rated was Copia, and that one is a beer I absolutely adore. More love needs to be doled out to the beers there.
Thanks for creating this @irycu ! I'm a fellow spreadsheet nerd, love excel! Can you maybe add blank columns between each category? Would make it easier to read. Minor nitpick is that I wish the brewery was listed for each beer in the most popular, top rated, etc. Not up on all my NJ beers and would like to know who makes it. Anyway, you gave me plenty of beers to hunt down.
@SRBush1974 The second link that OP provided allows you to download a copy and edit it yourself. Also each of the Most Popular/Top Beers are from the brewery listed in Column A of that same row.
Yea I'll try to make that adjustment when I'm back home in a little bit As to everyone else, thanks for the love.
Interesting that all the older breweries in NJ are lower rated for the most part. High Point comes in at # 42 and it's the highest rated older brewery.
Drunkenly decided to make an update to this sheet if anyone is interested (green marks new breweries added to the list, lmk if I have missed any newer ones): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1u7CLwBDw6-tluZuhDzGh29WlwKSBBTGuKNcItwpebC0/edit#gid=0 And again, if you want to mess around with the filters or make your own comments or what not, here is the link to make a copy of the sheet for your own use: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1u7CLwBDw6-tluZuhDzGh29WlwKSBBTGuKNcItwpebC0/copy (I got lazy and only updated breweries with an avg rating of roughly 3.65 and greater but I feel thats okay) New Additions: The biggest new addition (imo) to the list is Brotherton Brewing, which is popping up in bars all over the state. Currently at an average rating of 3.96, puts them right in between Kane and Carton, not bad company. This should obviously be taken with a grain of salt but I have had their IPA and it was damn good, especially for one that, given its name, will be a "staple". I would say that if they could brew other styles as well as they brew IPA/Jersey Devil they'll stick near the top but this is an IPA driven world and if you brew that well, people will flock. On my watch list. The other notable, extremely new, addition to the list is Troon Brewing, which opens up at tha numba 1 brewery in the state... with 4 beers and 31 ratings. If Brotherton is to be taken with a grain of salt, this is to be taken with the whole damn container. They seem to only be available at one bar (on the same property as the brewery) but I am eager to see how they expand in the upcoming months. I have a drunken hunch they could develop into a noteworthy name in this state. Lastly, sorry to 7 Mile brewery, I guess I missed them last time. Cheers *Cheers!
This is very helpful, thanks! Was planning a trip up to Magnify, but definitely adding Conclave to our route. I had no idea they were so highly rated.
The Ship Inn is one of the few NJ breweries I have any real respect for. I'm actually rather shocked to see some of the breweries that got the highest rankings. Just goes to show how much drinkers' palates can vary, and -as a result, how un-reliable sources like UnTapped can actually be sometimes. Props to you however for compiling that spreadsheet...nice work indeed. Thanks for that. It's nice to have such a complete list to remind me of the few places in NJ I've yet to visit. .
Please alphabetize by brewery. I know I could do it myself but it is an organizational courtesy to alphabetize a list. I love good, hard DATA so it's nice to see all of this in one place.
After the owner's meltdown on the Troon Facebook page, it's pretty funny to see Climax almost at the bottom.
