Hey all, I tried to do some searching in this thread and I got a few names of breweries, but many are closed on the days I have available. I may be stuck with checking some things out on draft, so any suggestions would be great. Primarily looking for NE IPAs since Ohio gets amazing distribution on things I like other than that style. I'll be flying into Newark late on Sunday night. I essentially have Monday morning and afternoon before the Bengals-Giants game to hunt for beer. I'm staying at Hampton Inn Carlstadt right by Meadowlands. I will have no car, but I'm comfortable using Lyft/Uber/public transport. Tuesday I'll be driving from NJ to Philly (rental car) for a work conference. I'll have time Tuesday after 5 PM to do whatever I want before more conferences/flying out Weds afternoon. I know this isn't a lot to work with, but if I could get a couple "bang for your buck" places to hit up to perhaps bring some cans back with me and get some good stuff on tap I'd much appreciate it. Cheers!
NJ doenst get any NYC distro...so are out of luck with that or hit up beer stores in NYC. However, if you are looking for Carton or Kane..you can hit up the brewery. Also, carton Odubs are still available at buyrite lersey city. Magnify makes NE style IPA but they are closed on Monday and Tuesday. You might have better luck setting up IP trades with Ohio beers.
You're within range to get to Brix City Brewing, which is open during your visit. Also nearby is Garden State Ale House in East Rutherford. Not bad. A bit further, but still might be considered uber/lyft-able, Plank Pizza Co. in Saddle Brook.
Carton and Kane are both closed Monday I believe. Take a bus into Port Authority, use beermenus to figure out which bar has what you want (Rattle n Hum West, Pony Bar, District, As Is,...etc.) then hit up Whole Foods to fill some growlers for the tailgate and find some stuff to bring home.
There is a decent bottle shop in downtown Rutherford. if you want to take a car into hoboken you can do that. Cork City has a great tap list and there are a few other bars on Washington St that you can grab lunch. Hoboken Vine has a decent selection for beers. you can also head over to Super Buy Right in Jersey City. there is a new bottle shop - Bottle Co. North Bergan, that i have heard about but never been personally... i work right by the stadium so feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
There a couple of places in Saddlebrook that have a good number of NJ beers on draft. About 20 minutes from your hotel. www.midlandbrewhouse.com/menu/ http://ppcbp.com/
for onsite consumption I second Cork city in Hoboken and Barcade in JC. Not close but on can be our way to Philly... Cloverleaf might be arguably best beer bar in Jersey ..http://www.cloverleaftavern.com/beer/
You'll make the most of it by taking the trip into NYC for As Is, Haymaker, or Milk and Hops. Milk and Hops is open for lunch and has a great assortment for carry-out.
Where exactly are you staying Tuesday night - downtown Philly or in the suburbs somewhere? If you are looking for hazy IPAs then you probably want to check out Tired Hands - they brew mostly hazy hoppy beers and saisons. Fermentaria is closed Tuesdays, but the Brewpub location is open. They are in Ardmore which is NW of the city proper. If you are downtown Philly, there are too many good bars to list, so you'd want to narrow it down to what section of the city.
I'll be staying at the airport hotel which is where the conference is. Tired Hands is where I planned on going if there's not a better spot.
They aren't my favorite local brewery but if you want that particular kind of beer, then they are definitely the one to hit. If you want a place to pick up beer west of the City nearer the Airport, then https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/20292/ http://pinbeer.com/
I'm open to suggestions if there are options, as it sounds like there is opportunity to get my fill up in NYC/Jersey.
If you are going to tired hands also worth checking the lists at Ardmore Beer Shoppe which is a block over. http://www.phillytapfinder.com/bar/the-beer-shoppe/ or Wynnewood Whole Foods https://www.beermenus.com/places/37888-whole-foods-market-wynnewood These guys often carry Sole and Funk two local breweries which do some good hazy IPAs.
In the city, you can use this to find particular beers at the numerous good bars: http://www.phillytapfinder.com/ If you like English styles of beer, check out Yards Brewery but they aren't open late http://yardsbrewing.com/visit/ New interesting low-profile brewpub, Bar Hygge http://www.barhygge.com/ Further out in the suburbs if you like Cask beer, Forrest & Main http://www.forestandmain.com/ If you want to go way out (1 hr drive from Airport), Free Will http://freewillbrewing.com/index.php/taproom-2/
Sort of in the area (will make a new thread if I have to) but any good beer bars in Harrison/Newark? Going to the Red Bull playoff game Sunday and would like a place to watch the Giants game at 1 that has a good beer selection. Hopefully something worth going out of my way for but not too far from the stadium
