Hey! I just relocated here from New Jersey where we have a great beer scene, particularly IPA's. We're in the Mt Pleasant SC area, what should I be on the lookout for as far as local IPA's that in your opinion are the best the Southeast coast has to offer? Thanks!
Do a search in this sub forum to get the full story, but to start out http://www.coastbrewing.com/ https://www.chsfermentory.com/ http://edmundsoast.com/brewing-co/ https://westbrookbrewing.com/ Cheers!
Common house Aleworks is the best brewery in town, in my opinion. Edmonds Oast for spectacular food and beer.
I second the recommendations of Charles Towne Fermatory, Edmunds Oast, and Westbrook. I know traveling is tough during a pandemic but Savannah, GA is amazing as is Wilmington, NC. Both are about a 2-3hr drive respectively. Cheers!
My #1 go-to = The Brew Cellar! It's the beer bar/bottle shop that is literal justa stone's throw away from Commonhouse Aleworks, mentioned above...and is justa few miles away from COAST Brewing, my favorite brewery in town.
Talk to Colby at Crafty Draught in MtP if you can. He will help you out immensely. Have a beer and a chat with him. Plus, pretty much any decent IPA will be on draft there.
Hobcaw is new and in Mt. P and is putting out great beers. Also check out Indigo Reef off Clements Ferry.
Westbrook is in your backyard, Edmunds Oast in Charleston. Coast Brewery’s Boy King is spectacular when it’s fresh. What’s nice but a very expensive option is you can get rare or impossible to find beers at Westbrook, the only caveat is you have to drink it in site and they’re not exactly giving them away. But for a tick, or special occasion. The beaches are better here too, 84 degree water vs Jersey about killing you with the cold water.
FWIW, we’re retiring to Horry County, Murrles Inlet. The beach pays most of the taxes, love no school taxes, low property taxes. Charleston’s beer scene an hour and a half away.
