Hi All, I made my first extract kit (1 gallon dead ringer IPA from NB) about 36 hours ago and have not seen any bubbling in the airlock. The OG reading (refractometer) was 1.07 (17 Brix) and I just checked again and the gravity is 1.042 (11 Brix). I know bubbling is not a good indicator of fermentation but I am not seeing any activity nor indication of krausen. Should I just assume the drop in gravity is evidence enough and leave it be or re pitch? I have double checked and the seal is good on the lid. I did rehydrate the yeast but am worried I left it too long before pitching (45 minutes to an hour). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Welcome to the BA site, tgile512, and to the Homebrewing forum. @VikeMan has it right. Just trust that scientific instrument that you've got. Your beer may take a little longer than expected, but it's getting there.
Thank you all for your help. One last question and I hope I am just crazy but I have noticed some white splotches forming on the surface of the wort. I have included pictures, the last one shows what it was like last night and the others show what it was like this morning (many more splotches have developed). Is this just standard fermenting or pellicles?
