I don't think that I have checked in previous years, but I noticed that there were no breweries on this year's list, which seems odd, considering the number of them in MA.

I hope this isn't broadly generalizing or something that people will take personally, but I don't think even the larger regional brewers can compete with the kinds of work environment that a lot of larger "white collar" companies in the city offer these days. High salaries, remote work, less physical, no need to wear a mask all day, 9-to-5 schedules, unlimited PTO, and most of them are still offering free beer. Seems you really have to be passionate about the craft beer industry to have a satisfying career there these days.

I would imagine the vast majority of MA breweries have fewer than 50 employees, meaning they wouldn't even qualify for the small business category.

I did work in the Sam corporate office for a while and really enjoyed my time there. The softball team was actually a lot of fun for them given all the goodies we brought and Steve. Very fun environment but certainly a younger culture given the break room is a bar. But I couldn’t see it competing with some of the larger tech companies I’ve work for and now working in defense.

Agree with the points posted above.

And if you are working for a smaller brewery there is nothing glorious about it. Its hard, labor intensive work. Then you have to deal with all the people who bitch and moan about your off beer flavors or how it was better in the shire than tatooine.

Treehouse seems like it would have had a shot here, but the reality is that modern tech companies etc are much more plugged in to these sorts of things.

Brewing is hot, sweaty dirty work that doesn't pay that well. You really have to love it and/or have aspirations of moving beyond the brewhouse. The people who just love it make the legendary beers we lust after.
