Those little bubbles on the top of the wort are a hint that fermentation may be starting. I'd leave it alone for now. What temp are you maintaining?

Thanks for adding the pic. The set-up that you have is likely going to allow CO2 to escape in small places other than the airlock just because it's easier for the CO2 to get out thru cracks rather than to make bubbles to get thru the airlock. So don't be surprised to never see bubbles in the airlock. If fermentation gets going you'll see the growth of the bubbles on the surface, and hopefully it will reach a foamy stage, possibly an inch thick. The health of the yeast will determine how active it becomes and how quickly it finishes.

Are you able to find this kit online at one of the online homebrew stores and post a link to it? We can then look at the instructions and get answers that may also be of help in guidance to you.

    Do you have a hydrometer?

My advice: Go to your homebrew store, return the new kit, and buy a hydrometer and a copy of "How to Brew." Take a sample, measure the gravity, and report back. Start reading the book while waiting for responses. Oh, and whatever that cloth is attached to, get it (and the tape) out of there.

I have one of those carboy caps. It only loosely fit my carboys. I never used it. I prefer these bungs for carboys:https://www.homebrewing.org/Univers...MI8bOA-ofo5QIVRvbjBx2apw57EAQYAiABEgKaQfD_BwE

However, I prefer buckets to carboys. I used to use plastic. Now I use stainless. For me, the main advantage to buckets is I can easily dip a sanitized metal measuring cup into it and draw a sample to test the beer.

FWIW, they come in at least two sizes/styles, depending on the style of carboy neck.
