here in Michigan we just got speedway stout. I found a bunch of bottles yesterday for 14 dollars each. And with no date on them. It looked like they were rubbed off from shipping. Do ya guys have any idea what the dates could be? It just seems like 14 bucks is a bit much for a bottle I don't know the date of. Thanks guys!

Last I heard the dates should be in yellow on the shoulder of the bottle and hand written on the case.

Unlikely to have been rubbed off during shipping since they probably never leave the case between brewery and retailer. So more likely the brewery printer had a glitch or your retailer delibertely rubbed them off.

If it's newly distributed to MI then my experience here in PA with newly introduced beers is that it's probably not more than about 3 mos. old (and often fresher) when the stuff starts showing up on the shelves.

With a stout it should be a relatively safe gamble so long as it's been handled reasonably well, etc.

    Okay cool. Thanks

Yeah I looked at every bottle the store had and one date was smudged and the rest had no dates. Kinda strange.

I would buy some. That price sounds right, and it ages very well.

I've had repeated issues with the date code on Alesmith bottles being smudged or rubbed completely away.

Yup, these dates smudge off pretty easy.

If fresh - $14 is a very fair price. However, I might be in the minority here, but I thought the coffee fell off after a few months and it wasn't nearly as good as when I had it fresh.

Exactly my experience here in Philly. Speedway generally appears every 3-4 months. I have encountered the missing date thing occasionally. Sometimes the stamp ends up a bit higher on the neck of the bottle and is covered by the foil wrapping. $14 for a 25 oz. bottle of Speedway is not a terrible price. Go for it! Great non-BA stout!!

    Thanks for the advice guys.

Quick question, at the store it was side by side, speedway and even more Jesus. I don't know which one would be better? I am headin back in a few days to get one of them. If ya had to choose just one, speedway stout or evil twin even more
    Jesus? Thanks

They're both great stouts. You can't go wrong with either one, but if you've never had either, why not try both and see which one you prefer?

If you get near OH, jump across the state line and they're only $9.99 (seriously, I buy several bottles every time I get to Cinci or Columbus, so I bet you could find them up north). It's definitely pretty good for a cheap, non-BA stout. Jesus stouts are easier to get here (Indy), but I find them pretty hit and miss, and they're definitely more expensive than Speedway.

For the price of the bottle, I'd take Speedway over EMJesus. If you can find Jesus in cans (especially somewhere you can break into singles), it's a must buy if you've never had it.

I'm opening a 25.4 oz to drink right now. No date on shoulder or under the foil; no date anywhere. Purchased yesterday in South Milwaukee for $10.99. Cheers!

Yeah for now I am leaning towards one can of emj. I'll give speedway a shot when I find it at another store.

The one I just opened is drinking fine. No fall off in coffee flavor, and at 12% should age well regardless of however long it has sat on a shelf . One of my all time favorite non BA stouts. Never had emj and I'm looking forward to your review - cheers!

Found some bottles brewed back in February of 2016. The coffee should still be good right?

I definitely agree, but I think it's fine within a year. Didn't like it at 2 1/2 years. I would still pick it up, it's a great beer and probably isn't old enough to worry.

I don't think it will be, could be wrong but in speaking to Founders about one of their items it was noted that coffee will tapper off after 3 mos or so. But again nothing is for certain you may be fine all depends on storage and such but as a rule I think 3 mos is a good bench mark for coffee side.
    Cheers
