This is a really great point.

Was trying to enjoy a pour of Night & Day while several dogs were barking furiously at eachother. Chorus of Dogs to say the least. Had to change location very quickly, ended up just walking around the brewery to avoid the noise.

Everyone needs to spend time in German beer halls and gardens – these are family friendly places - kids and dogs are common, in fact kids are practically encouraged as it’s not uncommon to find on-premise playgrounds. Too many beer geeks just want breweries to be hipster-only hangouts to define how cool they are…

If my dog was an asshole, I wouldn't bring her to breweries. Luckily, she is not an asshole and is the greatest dog in the world.

if most tap rooms were the size of classic german beer halls, I'd agree with you. Pretty classic to rib on hipsters when humble-bragging about all the time you spend sniffing beer farts in Europe.

I can't believe any dog would be worse behaved than the children running amok at the Trillium Substation on any given weekend while the parents ignore them and get loaded. Same people would probably have their poorly behaved dogs there too if they could I guess.

For me I only do it when my dog is with me and I am in the area of somewhere I want to visit. I don't go out of my way to bring my dog to a brewery.

I'm good for 1 drink and a to go order because a brewery is not a super fun spot for a dog to be for longer than that.

No bragging to be had, nice try. My point is that other beer cultures have a bit more humility in breweries that I think we could learn from (that’s more about the presence of kids).

But I’m pretty sure all who hate kids and dogs at breweries now would still hate it even if the space was bigger.

Kids are at jack's abbey all the time and are never an issue.

And while I feel a little bad for kids who I've seen stuck waiting in line at Tree House, just because I remember how long 10 minutes felt like when I was 6, never mind 60, I couldn't care less about their presence as they're just running around with other kids most of the time. Seems fine. Also see plenty of kids at Buzzard's Bay in the summer. No issue.

Smaller tap rooms are playing a little fast and loose with allowing kids, as they're essentially a bar at that point.

It's not so much people hating dogs as it is people hating shitty dog owners (and shitty parents).

I've worked the door ("security" lol) at a family member's taproom on some of their at-capacity days, and you'd be amazed by the ridiculous shit you sometimes see.

I wonder what the general policies are at breweries/brewpubs elsewhere in the world? Are dogs allowed in German taprooms for example? I would think not but I'd like to know. Did this originate in the US and is this another case of "the rest of the world is laughing at us"?

Sure we all hate shitty people regardless if they have their dogs or kids with them. Being “well behaved” doesn’t need to be a qualifier for dog owners and parents because it applies to everyone in an establishment.

My points were aimed more at the folks who just hate people who bring kids at all, and to a lesser extent, dogs.

Kids in most cases are fine. Dogs are much more difficult.

At least you can tell a misbehaving kid to go back to his parents and stop throwing pretzels at people. The 23-year-old girl with a not-at-all pit trained bull "rescue?" Not so much.

If she truly is the greatest dog in the world, leaving her at home wouldn't appear to be an issue. #underdog

It would be an issue. I would miss her too much.
