Which makes Vancouver the San Diego of Washington? Yikes.

If Portland is Oregon's Juarez instead, that makes Vancouver Washington's El Paso. Better?

    Sounds about right.

What does all of this make Bellingham? Canada's scrotum?

Great beer is inherently local all over the country and once the hype train gets rollin its tough to derail. We have our share of rare beers for sure but thankfully the train has rolled on by little ol Washington on its way to greener pastures...notably DeGarde. No rare beer here nudge nudge, wink wink.

In the original No Rare Beers thread, I think the main complaint/issue was that it was difficult (for some) to set up good trades because the perception/reality is that we don't produce beers here that carry the same demand/trade value as rare beers from other parts of the country. I don't trade (almost never anyway), as I'm basically happy drinking what I can get locally—so I don't know if this is a valid problem or not. For those of you who do trade, do you have difficulty landing the beers you want from other regions?

You drove past this sign a million times on your way to Bale Breaker, amirite?

It is ABSOLUTELY not a bad thing. I don't need our local beers getting all hyped up and making them harder for me to get just so some traders can send them OUT of town.

So what was it about that Reuben's release that led to lines? I've had a few of the beers in the past but don't hear a whole lot about them for the most part.

Super small bottling run and tiny venue. Plus mug club members get a certain amount set aside, leaving less for everyone else to fight over.

    Unlike some regions,
Good beer is not rare up here.
    Let others chase trucks.

We have some amazing beer in Washington State! Especially come fresh hop season, we are lucky that the majority of them are grown in our very own backyard. When I visited New Glarus it was all visitors picking up cases of wax covered bottles, when I was in Chicago for Black Friday it was a mad house of whale hunters. When I go to Fremont or E9 for example it's all locals hanging out together for world class local beers instead of people with hand trucks fighting just to get bottles to trade. Let other states have their hype and big egos, ill stick to being able to actually enjoy my breweries who treat me as a neighborhood guest. And the best stuff we just don't let the world know about *cough* Red Peak *cough*

    Hand trucks? You're kidding right?
    Don't answer that.

There were people with hand trucks at Fremont when Coffee Cinnamon BBomb was released. Seriously.

I heard that, too. Just goes to show that no good deed goes unpunished.
