    Per a small twitter exchange:

    @WoOdMcFlLy @surlybrewer @surlybrewing I could be wrong, but I thought I'd heard they're skipping Wet this year.

    @JasonBGP @surlybrewer @surlybrewing this can't be true?

    It's twoo it's twoo! No room this year... RT @WoOdMcFlLy: @JasonBGP @surlybrewer @surlybrewing this can't be true?

    And that... is the sound of my camel's back breaking.

    I think it has something to do with having their beer in every sports facility in MN, and Chicago... and Southwest Airlines.

    I'm pretty bitter. Wet and Abrasive are the two beers left of Surly's that I consistently buy and don't gripe about the price.

    I think it also has to do with cost (wet hop beers are crazy expensive to make) and the new brewery coming online just shortly after Wet's usual release time. They'll need to ramp up production on cores as they work their waitlist on accounts in MN and start sending more beer to Chicago and Iowa.

    Wet had a couple good to great years, last year not so much. Still will be missed, for sure.

    In the last few months, we've had:
    close out prices on Abrasive
    shelf turds
    not making Wet

    I don't like this trend.

    This makes me sad enough to drink a lot of good beer tonight.

    Now hopefully when it comes back, they go back to the 2011 Wet recipe....simply the best batch they have made.

    Canning Misanthrope would get me back on the bandwagon, but for now, I've fallen off for the exact reasons you state...

    Fortunately for all of us, there are a lot of other great local breweries producing a lot of great local beers. Every time Surly doesn't sell a beer that I want to buy, I spend my money on beer from another brewery. We're pretty fortunate in the Twin Cities--there's a lot of decent stuff to drink, local or otherwise. IMO, Surly is slowly becoming another New Belgium: they make good beers, but as they get larger they're slowly facing tougher, smaller, more nimble competition (breweries which are making some solid and interesting beers). I'm definitely not complaining, I like good beer and competition forces everybody to get better or get out of the market.

    I still don't get what is wrong with New Glarus' strategy - Take care of one state and establish a cult following with that base with no plan to expand all over the country...

    I think there are two things that go into making a beer desirable - if it's good, and if I can get my hands on it... The better it is and the rarer it is - the more desirable it is... I have friends (this was also me 3 years ago) that love drinking Spotted cow - mainly b/c you can not buy it here...

    I mean Surly was by no means strapped for cash with only distributing to MN were they?

    Oh well - Greed gets the best of all us... and I'm confident that the market will correct this... I mean I saw plenty of Pentagram on the shelf this afternoon - and I bought some CW stuff instead...

    It's the natural evolution of a brewery I guess... Better enjoy TG cause in 5 years I can see the same postings about them as well...

    Yup, saw bottles of Pentagram AND smoke on the shelf... opted for 2 bottles of Love Child instead.

    Furious is still a great beer, always will be.

    I'd love to see them go back to a local/loyalty based model. Drop prices on the beers only available here, as well as the local Fests they throw. That's what irks me, a combination of overpriced unproven beers, a decrease in the quality of their releases (including wet over time), and raising the price of events like surly fest. You have your beers in chicago, every MN stadium... and southwest airlines. Cut the locals some slack and drop some prices.

    If I was Todd and saw all the bitching on BA about Surly, I would purposely not brew Wet and let life go on.

    PS I'm drunk on Saga and Deviant Dales, but still, who cares, be happy with what you can get.

    The key for me on Surly is price. They used to be making beers like nobody else in town, and it was easier then to swallow hard and pay the price. Now there is competition, and we can all get great beer without paying Surly prices. Will Surly react? Time will tell. I just think it's a really interesting time for them to have a major expansion.

    That's twice you've mentioned Southwest now. Are you sure you don't mean Sun Country? As someone who flies Southwest regularly, I'd love to use my free drink tickets on a Surly at 30,000 feet but I have yet to see it as an option.

    The Surly buzz is waning. They now have competition and the liquor stores I have been to have said Surly doesn't sell as well like it used to.

    I live in Albertville and all the surrounding area bars have crap for beer selection, it is a craft beer desolate wasteland. Surly has finally made it out here, I am thankful for that. I don't think we will ever see the likes of Indeed, Steel Toe, Lift Bridge, ect out here anytime soon in the bars.
