My latest 4 pack had the yellow plastic rings, so I know it was relatively fresh. :slight_frown:

Again, I don't think the canned version is bad, but I could pick it out of a blind side by side with the draft version every time. The flavor hops just aren't as bright.

had 16 of the black ring cans a few weeks back and then went to Kentucky for work

picked up a growler of Freak on the way back from KY for Christmas and then got 8 of the yellow ring cans when I got back to Gboro...

I think HDR is currently my fav NC IPA... FH needs to can Jade

The 3 beers you just mentioned may just be my top 3 favorite beers in general. Westbrook IPA is right up there too though.

My most recent HDR purchase (yellow rings) was different...the beer poured darker, cloudier, and had yeast sediment on the bottom, like it was unfiltered....never had that before. I assume I got the bottom of the barrel, which is fine as this batch was VERY grape fruity in taste which I loved.

Have not had it on draft, but the cans I have had are amazing. This beer sells so quickly I would assume cans are no more than 30 days old. However, that would make a difference if you are drinking 3 day old draft at the brewery versus 30 day old cans.

With all craft beer, may just be a mental thing.

My brother-in-law brought down some cans for me at Christmas and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I've had this beer in bottles before, so I knew this was going to be good stuff. This beer tastes just like a local IPA, 'Hopart' from COAST. The Carolinas are really putting out some great beers!!

I figured out the difference! The cans are less carbonated than their draft counterparts! I'm guessing they just lose a few bubbles during the packaging process? Still love both versions of both beers!

You've been sherlocking on that one for a while. I'll be interested to see what others might say. I find both nearly identical and delicious.

So they changed the labeling - it's shiny now and isn't the sticker thing. Also, they are date stamping the bottom of the cans as of yesterday, so you'll know if it's fresh. Great news!

Nope, just been drinking and enjoying the beers in both forms and the other day it finally hit me. The difference is carbonation.

I will always, and have always held the belief Draft > Can or Bottles, until someone proves it to me differently.

Btw, I tasted the NoDa Brown Ale the other day, man was that good.

Not familiar with that part of town but I know there is a Total Wine up near the University (which is at least in the general area of the speedway). I know other total wines in CLT carry Hop Drop. Be forewarned though, it has been flying off the shelves so I would call before you go.

That said, just keep driving down 29/Tryon a few more miles and get it straight from the source (Noda doesn't open until 4pm though during the week though).

Hopefully others might be able to give you more suggestions up that way.

Looking at the beer finder, the Total Wine is definitely your best option for 4 packs.

Apparently they're at a gas station up that way.

"Head to Concord often? Speedway Express Mart off 29 across from @CLTMotorSpdwy has Jam 4-pks for $7.99 and Hop Drop 4-pks for $9.99!"
