Non Bourbon Barrel Aged Stouts

Ten Fidy, Expedition, and Founders are all TOP NOTCH; I'd pick those over a majority of BA stouts any day.

 

One of THE best in my opinion, along with speedway. Oil of aphrodite is amazing also.

Doesn't get much better than Plead the 5th, Founders Imperial Stout, Expedition Stout and Speedway Stout. I would take those over numerous BA stouts any day. I think these cellar better than BA stouts anyways.

I love stouts and barrel aging is amazing but I think I actually prefer some of the non barrel aged flavorful stouts like Abraxas or good coffee stouts more.

 

Ha, yea just kidding. I was super bummed the powder skiing was a joke this year. I'm originally from the mid-west, rarely wear a winter coat out here

 

Bourbon barrel Schmourbon, I'll take wine barrel beers over that black tar any day of the week

 

I guess it all depends on how overdone the bourbon is, I mean if I want a shot of bourbon, I'll get one for much cheaper than a stout. Done right, they add plenty of complexity and flavor, done wrong they just taste like a bastardized shot. I had a full sail imperial BA stout and the bourbon was so overpowering could hardly finish it. Just my opinion, but I'm also kinda new to this game.

 

I love BBA stouts. However , one example i can think of where i much prefer the naked version is Block 15's Nebula. Had it side by side to Super Nebula (BBA) and loved Nebula to the point of considering it one of the best stouts ive tried, at the same time thought Super Nebula was just OK.
