That is the yeast I use for our NEIPA’s (except I use Imperial Organic). I have also used it in amber Ales and stouts with good results. It flocculates almost as well as the Fuller’s strain (Wyeast 1968) unless you dry hop during fermentation. If you do that, it will stay in suspension for a very long time. The only other strain I’ve seen behave that way is Conan. I believe those strains are just effected more by hop oils and proteins smearing the yeast cell membrane than other strains.

Since he said “New” I wasn’t gonna mention Hop Juju...but, yeah. Hop Juju is my Favorite “Clear” (D)IPA.

Looking forward to trying it. I'm about over the "haze craze".

As for locally released clear IPAs that get hype? The closest I can think of is Fatality from McFate. I personally love it, and it seems to sell out relatively quickly when they can it. Although, I agree. Hazy beers are the only ones that can get REAL hype, aside from classics like Zombie Dust or Pliny.

Thanks for sharing that theory with me.

It would be nice if there was scientific analysis of this aspect. Are you aware of anybody scientifically studying this topic? Maybe Oregon State University?

    Cheers!

I've got a beer in the fermenter with that yeast now. Still looks like muddy water, and I think the fermentation is finished. It's only 5 days post pitch, though, on a 1.050 OG beer. I'll report back if it ever clears up; however, I included about 20% oat malt, so I don't know how much I can blame the yeast if it doesn't.

I have only had two hoppy beers from Alchemist (Heady Topper many times and Focal Banger once) and none of those beers were turbid/murky/opaque.

I recently homebrewed my version of Focal Banger and I dry hopped with a total of 4 ounces of hops (which is generous dry hopping from my perspective).

    Cheers!

I've brewed with Conan yeast a bunch and my beers come out crystal clear

Also, on this topic, I remember Modern Times apologizing for Folding Ships being clear a couple of months ago. To be fair, they DID market it as a hazy/NE IPA, but the fact that people got upset when they bought it and it poured clear is a bit telling, I think. For the record, the beer was still excellent, so I couldn't care less that it wasn't murky.

Sorry for posting so many times, but just thought of another. The Shop's collab with Pizza Port, Tickle Fight, was pretty clear, and I don't feel it got any less hype than their hazy IPA releases. Good beer, too.

Honestly, I don't think it's a thing, Denny is full of sh!t. He has always been on the anti-hazy beer bandwagon, so is just trying to justify his opinion.

I recently had El Segundo Surfin Bird which was amazing. And quite clear as well.

They marketed that one as a hybrid NEIPA-West Coast IPA. I never did try it

    OP--nice post.

Newer to me and clean, clear, crisp and what I am retreating to (and what I think should be hyped):

    1. Breakside Wanderlust
    2. Revision IPA

Not new to me but only avail locally and "hypeable"

Wooden Robot What She's Having--just fantastic

It's not new, but Sip of Sunshine meets the criteria of a " clear" ipa that still has some hype (at least in CT). That is definitely declining as it becomes more available, but it still moves pretty quick.

Other than that I can't think of a non-hazy ipa that generates a lot of popularity, let a lone a new one. On the other hand, I can count a lot of breweries that started off making non-hazy ipas and have since abandoned that.

Yep I came across some Hop Juju, bottled 02/02. I enjoy Head Hunter but not as much as some others seem to and for the price I have others I would pick* but the JuJu has always been recommended...and I am happy to report that for my first time trying it, it lived up to the hype for me, enjoyed it a lot.

*I noticed that HH is now in 6 packs vs 4 so the price makes it a solid choice for sure.

I'm not sure if it fits the criteria since they are national releases, but Waldo's and Born Yesterday from Lagunitas get a good amount of hype when they are released.

@dauss from comrade did a blind tasting with a bunch of ipas both hazy and clear. I was surprised how many clear beers were declared juicy in the results. Also, I hype the shit out of Comrade's hoppy offerings, top notch beers that rival german lagers in their briteness.

Also, after using conan, vermont ale, and L3, I gotta say l3 let's the hops shine a bit more than other hazy yeasts.
