I'm not sure if this is a "breweriana" or a "New England" sub culture question, but I'm having a Harpoon's Summer Ale (kolsch) in a non-standard glass, a Baxter's can glass. I love the glass and never review anything in it (its just the nostalgia of the brewery why I have it), but when I went to go to smell it, I was taken aback thinking "whoah, that smells awful." The beer doesn't expire until October and now I'm thinking, am I not to have kolsches in non-standard glasses, or if I do, am I to hold my nose while drinking because the taste wasn't bad. Now, I'm curious to know what others may have experienced while using non-standard glasses such as the below? Thoughts? Opinions?

I guess you could try pouring it into a different glass, but I highly doubt it'll change anything. Some glasses are better at capturing aromas than others, but they won't change the way the beer smells.

Also: these kinds of questions should go into the general Beer Talk forum.
