Looking for help in compiling a draft list for a new restaurant. Wanted to keep ALL 24 taps local to NC. Having a menu focused on burgers and sandwiches, I have a good portion of the list with browns, ipas, pales, and ambers. But in order to keep some of the "bud lights, coors lights, etc" off the menu, I have to find some year round available lighter styles. Looking for recommendations for hefes, wits, etc. Leaving a few taps for seasonal favs, but need a few "constants" that a still-budding craft market can look forward to

And if you have any suggestions on ANY style that should be included, or your favorite NC beer/brewery, heck, let me know that too! Thanks!!

Porter, Stouts, Imperial Porters, Imperial Stouts, American-style Barleywines, English-style Barleywines. Olde Hickory, NoDa, Birdsong, Triple C and of course...Wicked Weed. As far as lighter styles and Hefeweizens go, check out Olde Mecklenburg Brewery. They only make German-style beers.

Having a hard time... a REALLY hard time getting a response from Wicked Weed. I know they are really slamming right now though. And do have a couple of Birdsong, Olde Hickory, and OMB on the list... NoDa not taking any new accounts right now (or at least as of a couple months ago)

Try Natty Greene, Foothills and Red Oak. BMC crowd can generally find likeable libations from those places, and the majority are core, year-round beers.

As far as lighter style beers go, I would recommend some of Mother Earth's offerings. They do a solid kolsch (Endless River) and a really good wit (Weeping Willow). And they also have a pilsner out right now (Park Day). Any of these would be good options as alternatives to BMC. My step-dad has not drank a beer other than Weeping Willow since I introduced him to it.

White Street also makes a good kolsch.

Which part of NC? Probably near Charlotte if Birdsong and NODA are possibilities. Anyways, Haw River and Deep River are both great newer breweries in the Triangle. Not sure if they are distro'd out that far though. Highland is a recognizable name with some solid offerings.

This is one man's opinion...but as a person that lives in Charlotte...can you please try to have stuff from OUTSIDE NC? I'm all about 'drinking local,' but I'm MORE about 'drinking great beer.' It gets old to go out and constantly find the same mediocre stuff on tap. Maybe set aside a tap or two for 'non-local' stuff? Please?

I find that I am able to find a variety of NC beers and out of state beers around Charlotte. I like the idea of only NC beer place. Concept works really well in MI.

Also, I get what you're saying about ALL NC beer, thats just what we are planning for this upcoming spot. In the restaurant we already have up and running, we run about 60-70% local, with the remaining from all over.

If that's the full list, I'd make sure you get a few more IPAs. Maybe cut a few darker beers for the spring and summer. Foothills Hoppyum or Jade, NoDa Hop Drop or Woody & Wilcox, Birdsong Higher Ground, Olde Hickory Death by Hops - those would be my IPA suggestions that you could likely get

(Maybe swap out Kashmir). Also, best hefe in state is probably Lonerider Shotgun Betty

You don't need 2 brown ales + 2 porters + 2 stouts in my opinion. Especially now that it's getting warmer. I'd replace at least 2 of those with a black ipa and another lighter beer like a wit.

Also nix Red Oak. No one is going to drink that because it doesn't appeal to craft beer folks or BMC folks.

Add something kinda weird/fun like a Fullsteam Cackalackay.

I think if you are focusing on NC beers Foothills Hoppyum is a must. Its available year-round, very well known & a great example of the style.

... been around since 1991, and only available in NC. Yeah, it's a sure bet that no one is going to drink it.

Couple thoughts, I don't think WW will be considering regular taps outside of the Asheville area as according to Walt yesterday, they're are only 5 taps in the Asheville area outside of WW's locations. But, when they open up in Candler, all bets are off, I'm sure you will have better luck grabbing a tap from them then. They've broken ground so in a year?

Do you consider New Belgium a NC beer or not? If you do, consider "Fat Tire" as a generally lighter offering. Also, taste a Sierra Nevada Nooner Pilsner again, it is a lighter beer (I think for a pilsner) if you consider them a NC brewery. Hard to find a "craft" brewer making lighter offerings.

Not sure I follow...I am sure I could find 5 places in Charlotte that have WW on tap right now. Or maybe I am mis-reading this.

Honestly, when Walt and I were talking we were talking about Asheville in particular. I assumed which is always bad, he was telling me across the state! I could have misunderstood the conversation. If so I stand corrected. Thanks for pointing that out.

If so he should try to grab "Freak of Nature" for an IPA tap. But, alas, outside of Sours, WW doesn't make a "lighter" style beer and Sours are too difficult for the general public to grasp to dedicate a tap if WW would give a sour out. Even in WW, when I get new folks to "try" sours its a 50/50 proposition on them liking this style of beer.

Wedge makes a wonderfully light Pilsner but dog gone it, it's not year round which won't help a bar in the least bit or if Wedge would allow a distribution of it.
