I am visiting the in laws in Fargo. I stopped in Happy Harry's by the mall. Plenty of Jolly Russian, DSDB, And On Fleek. Also one apricot vista and two (make that one after I left) 4-pack of black note.

Not exactly North Dakota, but I'm up in Moorhead for the weekend and excited to check out Junkyard this evening.

Stop in there on the way to Northern Minnesota on Friday night. Passed on the Black Note after trying it this year, I was disappointed. Picked up some more Rum King though and a DSDB.

Check out Junkyard for sure. They're doing some great stuff there.

I occasionally make trips down to Grand Forks and of note, I've seen Apricot Vista and Orbital Drift at each Happy Harry's for at least the past few trips. Saw Rum King and DSDB this past weekend as well.

Gonna have to stretch it out to hit up Junkyard next time up.

I hit up Junkyard every time I visit. They always have something new, and most of the things I've tried have been extremely good.

Jamestown is not real exciting but you can go about an hour and fifteen minutes east or west and find some things. East you hit Fargo Moorhead where Junkyard is the crown jewel but there are other places as well. West you hit Bismarck and Laughing Sun which I have still yet to try but have heard some buzz....plus they have some other options there too I think....

I hear there is a pretty cool spontaneous winter camp out going on somewhere around the Missouri river.....

I think Jamestown, ND is going to be a bit of a beer culture shock coming from SoCal, so I feel for you. You'll have to travel quite a ways to find some decent breweries. There are other craft beer spots, but I'll keep this just to breweries for now.

90 minutes west is Bismark, where you'll find Laughing Sun and Buffalo Commons. I haven't been to either but Laughing Sun seems to get generally OK reviews.

90 minutes east is Fargo/Moorehead, where you'll find your best "close" option - Junkyard. Fargo Brewing, Drekker and Flatland are also in the area, although Junkyard is clearly the winner.

Less than 3 hours NW is Bismark, which has Souris River. I can't speak to their beers, but it's something.

And finally, 2.5 hours east you'll find yourself in Perham, MN and at Disgruntled. This place is consistently pumping out really good beers, including some awesome East Coast style IPAs amongst other things.

I would imagine that after a while in Jamestown (especially in winter) you'll jump at the chance to take a few hour road trip to somewhere else. Good luck with the move!

Derp. Bismark...Bismarck...3 Hours NW is Minot. My bad...too late to edit.

But let's be honest. There isn't much difference between Bismarck and Minot, is there?

it will be a culture shock coming form SoCal. My parents left SoCal in the 70s to Aberdeen SD and the difference was too great and moved to Des Moines :-). They moved back to SoCal once I left for college.

If you make the long roadtrip to Perham and back once a month or so, you could stock up on crowlers of Disgruntled and Junkyard (on the way) and be in decent shape. I know a lot of us in the cities would kill to have regular access to Disgruntled fresh from the brewery. When it goes on tap around here, it disappears fairly quickly.

This is what I'm considering doing, and I live in Winnipeg. Perham seems like it's essentially a 4 hour trip, so make a full day out of it every 2 months or so perhaps. But if the beer is as good as advertised ...

If anyone ever makes a point to go to either Disgruntled or Junkyard with some regularity (both would be ideal) ... I think sending me a PM would possibly be worth your while.
