My wife will be staying in Northbrook, Illinois next week. However, she won't have a vehicle. So, I was wondering if there are any solid bottle shops near by. Thanks!

EDIT: How easy is it to find Intelligentsia coffee?

My neck of the woods! Otis and Lee has good selection generally, prices aren't always great though. That's probably about it for Northrbook proper. Liquor barn in wheeling is somewhat nearby if you need another option beyond traditional Binnys option.

Highland Park Binnys, Otis & Lee, Liquor Barn Wheeling, World Wide Liquors in Deerfield.

Marianos or Whole Foods will have Intelligentsia.

Although Northbrook is not walkable.. you need a car to get anywhere. I suppose Pace bus can get you some places.

Please use liquor barn as a last resort. Like if every whole foods and binnys happened to spontaneously blow up at the same time, only then I would suggest to still not go there.

I work out in Northbrook, and it really isn't walk-able (and pretty big area) so it depends on what sort of things you want your wife to hunt down! Mariano's (grocery store chain) has a pretty wide pick and mix 6 pack section if you just wanted her to grab you a 6 pack of mixed local things (revolution, 2 brothers) but if you want more exciting things it will be tough.

If you have a more specific area she is staying I would be happy to suggest some more specific close options, but as others have already said, the Highland Park Binnys and Otis and Lee are the best 2 spots. Fair warning though, Otis and Lee don't carry pipeworks, and the store is a rambling mess of stacked boxes and narrow shelves - very much the haunt of a beer geek (he has bottles from prior shares lining the tops of fridges).

Northbrook is pretty much all office parks and suburbs, so good craft options are pretty limited. If she happens to be staying close to Willow Rd and 294 I am happy to go on a mule run for you in the city and drop the beers off to her!

There's also plenty of ubers around in the suburbs now if she needs to get around!

True, but if you are going to pay for an Uber to send the wife beer shopping for shelf beers, you may as well just do a quick mail trade - it would probably be cheaper to FedEx a medium box than pay for an uber to Binnys and back, and I bet it is cheaper in terms of wifely annoyance!

Haha fair point (especially on the wifely annoyance)

Especially when she doesn't drink or care about beer. I hate shipping! Packing, taping and dropping it off. Blah!

Yeah, I'm not interested in average mix your own 6-pack stuff.

Then your best bet is to find a kindly soul who works near where your wife is going to be and is willing to do a shopping trip for you - Northbrook isn't really good for hunting down more limited release bombers etc...

Not sure if I can ask anyone to give her a ride, to any of the shops mentioned in this thread.

My wife is at Mariano's at the moment. She said their selection is very lousy.

She won't find anything 'special' at Mariano's. They had BCBS a couple weeks ago, but besides that there is nothing that you wouldn't be able find at any other random liquor/beer store.

Otis and Lee is the place to go in Northbrook.

Amen. Complete a-holes run this place. I have never once felt anything but contempt from the people working there and their prices are stupidly high on most things. I used to go there because FFF was easy to find there but quickly got tired of paying ripoff prices for old beer. Good fruit at the place next door though...
