Decided to take an extended break from BA to reset the palate, but I'm happy to say I'm back and ready to dive into some Oktoberfestbier.

First up for me this season is Genesee Oktoberfest. $10.99 for a 12-pack of 12 oz cans so the price was just right. Light amber color with brilliant clarity (there was a lot of condensation on the glass when I took the pic). Well balanced and easy to drink. A little lighter bodied than most Oktoberfests, but I liked that it didn't fall prey to becoming cloyingly sweet like some of the other local versions of the style I've had recently.

I really enjoyed this one. Great bang for your buck. I might have to go back and pick up another pack. Prost!

And your favorite between amber and pale Oktoberfests too?

Notch should be releasing theirs soon. Unless they changed it this year, it’ll be a pale Oktoberfest. They’re distributing it in cans/draft to bars and liquor stores.

Draft only, but Idle Hands just released their “Wiesn Fest”.

Yep, always seems to be the one I look most forward to and subsequently buy the most of.

Nice to have you back. It’s weird I never seen any of the Genesee seasonal stuff down here.

That beer has some nice FOAM

Thanks man. Wegmans is the only place I've found near me that carries Genesee. Cans were nice and fresh too. Vaguely remember seeing 30 racks of their Cream Ale other places but haven't seen their other beers anywhere else.

They need to follow the lines going south and get some to you. :sunglasses:

I saw that at Wegmans yesterday but didn’t notice the price. Might have to pick some up!

Is East Rock on the lighter side or darker?

Lighter, that was my point (obviously not made well)

I think you made it well. I read your “less amberish ofests” meaning less as in lighter vs darker.

Magouns' Oktoberfest starts next Thursday, September 15th per their Facebook page.

Just checked Long Cross' tap list. They have four Oktoberfest beers on already. I assume Magouns and Blackmoor might have similar tap lists.

@SunDevilBeer looks like you can enjoy a liter during NFL Sunday!

I need an excuse to go to Magoun's to have their nachos again.

Broke down and got the Sam fall mix pack of cans. Not a fan of Jack-o but that’s what having friends over to fire pit is for! Someone will drink them! Enjoying a Sam Adams Festbier now. It seems a bit more like a marzen than a festbier. A bit darker and maltier but less caramel than the Sam Adams Oktoberfest. Pretty smooth and enjoyable.

I'm confused to be honest, but let me just add one thing for clarity for BearsOnAcid - the East Rock beer might be lighter than some other Oktoberfests, but if people want to distinguish between gold and amber Oktoberfestbiers (as @BearsOnAcid is doing), East Rock is an amber. It is a dark beer when seen strictly in that dichotomy.

True, I was just comparing it to Counterweight’s beer

Yep enjoyed a tasty liter of Weihenstephaner fest bier @ Magouns yesterday watching NFL. Hacker, Paulaner, Ayinger also on tap. Prosit!

Against better judgment tried both the Toppling Goliath Ofest & 3 Floyd’s Munsterfest tonight at my local taproom. Woof - they’re both horrible.

Sticking to policy of German-only festbiers for remainder of season.

So far this season I've had and really enjoyed the new Troegs Oktoberfest Lager, local NJ Oktoberfests from Conclave Brewing and Fort Nonsense Brewing. I actually liked Fort Nonsense's Oktoberfest a little more.

I'm really hoping to get Tonewood's Biergarten and have been checking the untappd/websites of the local shops near where I work and home. I think Jersey Cyclone's Festbier will be canned soon, too and that one was very good last year. I've been impressed with Untied's Turkey Town lager the past couple of years when I had it at the brewery so a 4-pack of that may wend its way into my beer fridge.

I'll likely get Ayinger's since theirs is always a favorite and I may have to try Zero Gravity's for the first time. Old time favorites...maybe Victory.

I had a single can of the Toppling Goliath. I thought it was ok, but yeah, light years away from the imports. A bit lean too if I recall, 5.2%? That’s more a Vienna than an amber Oktoberfest.
