Not a ton going on in Northville. You will be 10 minutes from Witches Hat in South Lyon. Will you have time to head 30 minutes down W-696 to Royal Oak and Warren? If so I would recommend Holiday, Cloverleaf in Royal Oak for bottleshops and Bastone for a Royal Oak Brewery, 10 more minutes down 696 is Kuhnhenns and Champanes for a bottle shop
Or 15 minutes to head west to Ann Arbor. I don't know how soon your trip might be, but you need to make sure any trip to AA is not on a game day weekend or on days when students move back to town. In AA you'll have a Jolly Pumpkin, Arbor Brewing, Grizzly Peak and Blue Tractor for breweries (those are listed in my preferred order), Ashley's, and several great bottle shops, Plum Market being the preferred one for me.
Flying into Detroit then heading up to Northville. From there heading over to East Lansing for a game. About the only free time I will have is Friday afternoon. Thanks for the suggestions.
Check out Hillers in Northville. Pretty good for a grocery store. Also, Good Times party store on 7 mile.
I suppose it come's down to how much time you're looking to kill... If you're looking to grab some food and a beer Ashley's Westland was mentioned above and typically has a great representation of Michigan beers, 47 taps if memory serves me right (by memory I mean I go there once a week). I'd also throw out Hermann's Olde Town Grill in Plymouth. Food is on point and their beer selection has been pretty great as of late. 'Just' a dozen taps or so, but they usually have two hearted, a bells seasonal and reds rye on tap. I've seen some more interesting Short's releases show up there and lately they've had a rotating tap with some great stuff. Its been New Belgium collabs recently but randomly this past spring they tapped bourbon county...no advertising or fan fare, just bourbon county on tap for days at a fair price. Not saying that'll happen, but it shows they know what's up. For bottle shops, Wine Castle is just a short drive in to Livonia and has a pretty good selection. Nothing crazy, but a good shop with high turn over on beer so their offerings are generally fresh.
While reading thru the latest 'Michigan Beer Guide' I discovered that this winery in Northville now has beer available. You could check it out and report back to us. http://www.thenorthvillewinery.com/
Right now they dont have much on and what they do is mediocre..there is good promise there though.. Hit Witchs Hat Brewing while in town..Its the closest good brewery
Not much time, basically Friday afternoon/evening and that is it. Looking at making a deter from the airport and hitting Kuhnhenns on the way to Northville and then will try to sneak over to Witchs Hat brewing at some point.
That's a big detour. If you don't have much time, then good luck with the Friday rush hour phenomenon.
Arriving early, but thanks for the traffic advice. Been awhile since I flew into Detroit, so Kuhnhenns maybe too much of detour to battle the wife over.
On your way to East Lansing, Stop at the Vine & Brew in Okemos. https://twitter.com/VineandBrew 2311 Jolly Road, Okemos MI Great selection and prices.
Hit Witch's Hat on our trip. Had the Smokin Night Fury and the Doedish. Both really well done beers. Only able to hit Hillers and picked up Short's Short Parade, BBA Dragons Milk and a six of Coal Stoker. Was a quick trip so my wife could watch a football game. Highlight of the trip was finding a 24 year old bottle of single barrel Evan Williams bourbon that was forgotten in the back of the liquor cabinet of our hosts who did not drink bourbon.
