Just bought a 4-pack of BBA Scotty Karate recently for $8.99.
I went to the sister store about 2 miles away and it was for $19.99.

Someone marked the BA the price of regular SK.

I didn't say anything. They have all my money anyway..

EDIT: bought the BBA SK in mid-June, as of two days ago they still hadn't changed the price. I didn't buy more nor did I tell anyone.

I do most of my drinking at Whole Foods and they over/under me all the time. I just point it out and tell them we will correct it next time. Same with tips there, you can't put the on your card, so I will go sometimes several trips without giving a tip (no cash on hand) and when I come in with cash I overtip everyone who has served me. All works out

No but I've been overcharged almost every time I've bought beer  Sorry, someone had to say it.

Although I will say something rather than let them undercharge me, I probably wouldn't say anything if it's marked too low.

Not beer related but my local Meijer had fifths of Everclear labeled as a bottom shelf vodka for $5.99 a pop. Bought them all. My barter skill is simply high I suppose

I went to Home Depot to purchase a wheel barrow. While I was there I picked up 10 or 12 other items and threw them in the wheel barrow. When I went through checkout the cashier rang up everything in the wheel barrow but not the wheel barrow itself. I noticed but kept on walking.

There have been numerous times in my life when I was given incorrect change. I always gave it back as I don't want the cashier to get in trouble. But I just chalked the wheel barrow up to being a bonus for spending SO MUCH money at Home Depot.

I can still sleep at night

Have mentioned it previously on BA, but, I've had a similar situation for Avery Uncle Jacob Stout posted above. Was charged 17 dollars for a whole sixer, argued, and was given over 100 worth of beer for 17 bucks. I tried to do the right thing, but was given a pass. A big pass. I still shop at that shop, but try and avoid those big buys because of a little bit of the guilties.

TW is also notorious (read: widely regarded) for this. Sometimes new stock will come in that should be priced way higher and they place it under a lower price in the stock.

I've never told anyone this and have felt very guilty about this experience for a long time, so I'm going to use this thread as my confessional.

A buddy and I made friends with a bodega owner who sells a lot of craft beer. Like most bodegas (in my area at least) they play pretty fast and loose in regards to the alcohol and tobacco laws. Anyways, we made a deal with him that every 3 months or so we bring him a bunch of Trillium that he sells from behind the counter (at a ridiculous markup), and he will save us any and all special releases that we want.

So on this one trip to Trillium Canton right around the time they started canning, we got the max allotment for every beer they had (2 cases of everything, spent over $1500). When we got home we divided everything up, each of our hauls, a couple beers for our friends and the allotment for the bodega.

After going thru all the beer for over an hour the numbers still weren't adding up. Finally upon triple checking the receipt, we realized that we had only been charged for one case of Outside The Lines and gotten the 2nd one (~$285 if I remember correctly) for free. I honestly felt very bad, but there was no way I was making the 10 hr round trip back to pay for it.

tl;dr I feel pretty scummy bc not only was I muling beers from one of my favorite breweries to be sold illegally, but I also ripped them off $280. I have long since stopped doing this because it is not in the true spirit of beer, but I still feel quite guilty.

Forgive me BA for I have sinned and I am sorry for my sins with all of my heart. I firmly intend, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and to only acquire special release beers through honest and righteous means.

@CNoj012 NY is grimy. I know people who drop $8-$10 on single cans of HT from "behind counter" transactions. I could barely find it in beer stores in and around Stowe last summer, let alone NYC. And I only ever hear about it coming from the NY region. Hustleville. Just be careful. I know there was this lady who was trying to sell beer via craigslist. I also know when buying large quantities at beer stores around here, you have to sign a waiver that you are basically not a "wholesaler or reseller". You are playing with fire, over some beer. Stupid. Don't be surprised some sting operations don't happen more frequently. Ebay already has Trillium and TH beers for $70/four pack, so I could see how the bodegas can upcharge to $10-$15 if they wanted and pocket all of it, tax free.. Don't you just love craft beer lol.

With that said, I already feel ripped off buying most beer, so I have no regrets when something falls in my favor.

Recently, I too bought some BA ten fidy. This time, they had 4 still in the plastic can ring holders. I took up the set and was charged for one.

Another time, some beer had the single sku for a sixer, so I ended up dropping $7 for $33 worth of beer.

Another time, they had XOCOVEZA out of their system, and in its place, Stone Jinja IPA. They scanned the sixer on the XOCO and it came up wrong. $2 difference/sixer.

I agree it was stupid, but I haven't done this or even visited that Bodega in over a year. I will still grab a few 4pks for a couple buddies if I am headed to Trillium or any other renown brewery, but I almost never even ask for money because they do the same thing for me and I'm sure it evens out.

Well it depends on where I am buying the beer.

If its a soulless place or a decently large chain restaurant, I am less likely to point out the error. There have been several times that places served me 12% and larger beers in pint glasses when they should have been much smaller glasses. I usually let stuff like that go and just enjoy it.

When places forget to ring up entire items though, I usually always ask. I've found that most places just let it slide anyway if youre honest. If its a place that I respect or go to a lot, I will also point it out. If I go somewhere and order a beer with the expectation of paying, I shouldnt shirk that responsibility at the owners expense.

I once walked up to the U-scan at Meijer with two bottles of No Rules.

They wouldn't scan because the shipment had just arrived, so the lady started manually entering them for $2 each.

I told her they should be at least $10 a piece. She ignored me and let me have them for $2.

I thanked her and headed home.

Whole Foods, four pack of prairie bomb for ten bucks rather than the single at that price. They did fire all of their best beer guys because their stock has been tanking so the karma is more coming back on them than setting me up, I believe.

There's a small spot south of me and when the guy knows what he's got he overcharges. $18 a sixer of ballast point oktoberfest. And when he doesn't realize what he has...like a Chimay gift set of 4 of their beers plus glass for $15, I score

I once didn't get charged for a case of PBR when I bought up some stuff. I realized it and went back inside to pay for it. They thanked me and later that week I lost my job for reasons, and got a job at that same liqour store I paid back. Karma is weird but it's very real

Somewhat telling that many of the undercharged stories involve Prarie.

I had almost $5,000 of additional equipment delivered with tractor I bought last year. When I let the dealer know, the salesman was seriously sweating it out as he checked the invoice to make sure he didn't accidentally include the items at our agreed upon price.

I know I've had beers left off my tab before and, right or wrong, I usually just add the amount of that beer to the server's tip.

Keyed in my boss to a deal I found last week at a local liquor store that is usually horrendously overpriced and only has past-date stuff. You could buy a single bottle of DFH 120 for $11.99, or you could buy a 4 pack of it for $19.99.

He went back and bought a 4 pack. I went back yesterday and the 4 pack was suddenly $39.99. My boss gave me a bottle for my trouble.

I went to the South Street Seaport on a field trip back in '86. I gave the cashier a $20 bill and she gave me back a ten and two fives....

But no, I haven't been undercharged for beer.....if anything I'm always overcharged.....
