Just curious of anybody having a beer recently that isn't new but was new for you and you were surprised how good it was? For me it would be Pseudo Sue, recently got some in a trade and was surprised how good it was.
Same here. I had Pseudo Sue a couple of month ago. Nice to hear the hype match your experience. While not a specific beer, I have been drinking wild ales more and found that I'm really enjoying the style. Not sure what changes from my original experience with them.
Oh sure, living as we do on the boundary of the distribution orbit there are a number of brands (Pseudo Sue being an example) that I haven't had a chance to try. Actually that has turned out to be a bit of an advantage because well known labels mean lots of reviews which gives me information enough to have an idea of what I'm getting.
Yea I myself am one state away from TG distro which is nice they just got to Mass this year I think so now I have a close friends wife with family there and can get it here and there.
I just lucked into some The Waldos recently. Excellent stuff I had never seen before. I hope it becomes a regular at my shop.
While on my way to Ohio last fall, I found some Zombie Dust in a little liquor store in Lafayette, Indiana. No question in my mind that it lives up to the hype, as does PseudoSue. I'm fortunate to be able to get PseudoSue whenever I want it, but I'm not a fan of bombers and 16-ounce cans.
I regularly visit breweries on my retirement explorations, and just about all of them are new to me, and some of them are recently opened new breweries. I usually expect most of the beers to be pretty good, but every now and then I run into that surprise beer that WOWs me. Whether the brewer got lucky with a recipe, or if the brewer knew it would be a sensation, I don't know, but it shows that those beers can be found. Sadly most are not in distro for more people to enjoy them.
Might I suggest visiting the New Beer Sunday thread every week? We get together, try brews that are new to us, and we discuss those brews. Check it out, we have fun!
About 50% of what I drink are singles, taps, or growlers of new-to-me beers, and since I usually buy styles I know I like, I am often rewarded with a new top 50. I've had 102 of 104 styles, and a vast majority I've liked, so my options are wide open...
There's so many new beers popping up now it's hard to keep track, plus established breweries expanding distro. Like they said above, Toppling Goliath just hit Massachusetts a couple months ago, Bell is starting next week, if I understand it correctly. I've had a few of theirs before, but looking forward to getting regular access,
Yeah, it also kills me when a great beer is a one off and they don't make it again. Why would you not make another batch of such a glorious beer? I'll never understand it. The only acceptable excuse is if it were made by an accident in brewing that wasn't documented.
