This is one of my favorite quotes of all-time because it's so relatable.

"Being drunk is a good disguise. I drink so I can talk to a$$holes. This includes me." - Jim Morrison

According to Quote Investigator, the origin of this quote is unclear. It may even go back as far as Dorothy Parker, but that can't be substantiated. The article is a fun read anyway, and it is a great quote regardless of who said it first. (I'm partial to the "free bottle in front of me vs. pre-frontal lobotomy" version. YMMV.)
    Cheers! :beers:

Pretty sure I saw Tom say that on Fernwood 2night (Full interview + song)

but, like a lot of these sort of well-known an oft-repeated quotes, it's in dispute.

"It's very hard to get pretentious about beer. You can become knowledgeable and start to talk with a highfalutin vocabulary. But you can only go so far with beer, and I've always liked that."
--- Fritz Maytag, former owner of Anchor Brewing Co.,
(currently uncommunicative re: Sapporo's Anchor shutdown ).

I mean, a quote using " highfalutin " is always going to be destined for fame.

I knew I remembered that from Fernwood 2Night -- but I'll be damned if I remember Waits being on there!

I didn't get into him until much later, so his appearance probably didn't make an impression at the time -- just the line.

Yeah, if you didn't know Waits at the time, it'd be easy to think he was just another wacky character on that TV show. I looked it up in the IMBD to make sure Waits was on it while it was still Fernwood 2-Night and not revamped show, America 2-Night, and it says: "Tom Waits, the biggest entertainer to ever appear on the show, sings "The Piano Has Been Drinking" to Garth's (Mull's character) consternation." Surprised at that - I guess I was confusing it with a latter day late night talk satire like The Larry Sanders Show?
