Maybe we should just ignore the guy from the suburbs who probably thinks that any neighborhood that's not full of white people and luxury condos is "unsafe."

Damn it, I love Randy and I want to see him do well, but I hear Madagascar is already gone...

Or we can ignore the people that turned this thread into a topic of race? Remember, your the one making all kinds of assumptions. Never said that that area blows because of black people. Reading comprehension is a wonderful thing.

Back to beer. How's the Pineapple Sculpin tasting? Is it a pineapple bomb, or pretty well balanced?

Not bottles, but you can get draft at Beltway Brewing in Sterling. They seem to have 1 of their beers on most times they are open (Fri and Sat).

Yea, I've been over there before. It's a little bit of a drive for me, so I was hoping there was somewhere I could pick up a bottle. Also, I have a tough time paying $28 for a 64oz growler of an IPA, no matter who makes it. But damn, was that Tesseract amazing.

I thought it was pretty solid and I would rank it just below the grapefruit. A lot of pineapple on the nose, but the taste is nicely subtle.

It was only one case -- didn't last long on a busy Friday.

$28 for 64oz is a better deal than we get here in NYC, where it often approaches $40. Not to mention, the cans are $5 minimum, sometimes $6-7, so 64oz in cans could even run you that much. Grimm prices are pretty crazy, but I pay it every chance I get because the beer is amazing.

I'm not sure I understand your post. They got a sought after beer that sold out quickly and somehow that means Randy isn't doing well there? I'm betting he is the sole reason they even got a case of it.

Damn, I'm sorry I missed it! I've been wanting to try it for a while!

Never actually tried it yet, but it and Dinner are two of those beers that I'm unreasonably eager to try.

I said nothing but the truth. South east is a fine neighborhood, there is a higher crime rate than the surrounding areas especially after dark. Where does where I "may" live have anything to do with that?

Nothing racial was mentioned at all either.

Also, Ocelot Talking Backwards is damn good, at 10.8%, it's not boozy, I'd make the trip to Ocelot for that beer.

Stopped by Calvert after work. Picked up Lunch (first time I've been able to get it), Abyss, some BB Sidamo, and Avery 22. I was never a P St guy, so I met Randy for the first time today. Great guy, had a nice conversation with him and he has really turned Calvert Woodley into a beer destination. I really appreciate that they don't price gouge like many other locations in DC. Randy was more than happy to point out some rare and good stuff they had on the shelves.

Pipetown is definitely bizarre. Do they only carry Shelton Brothers stuff? All the beer, mead, and cider seem to be Shelton Brothers. The vibe is weird. I got a fill of Rainbow Dome last week, and the guy said the same thing "its gonna take forever." I said fine, he said "like 15 minutes." I said fine. It took about that long and it as fine. Seemed to be a massive foam issue (dregs of the keg?) The growler was Ok. A little undercarbed, but worth the effort.

I guess some of the draft lines are not Shelton, but its a really odd place. and if it IS just some sort of Shelton Brothers front, how about some Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, Grassroots, Prairie...

also, while the area is not terrible, its not great. more to the point, its an odd location for a minimalist obscure European bottle shop. I can't imagine they get a ton of foot traffic sales.

having said that if your'e over there, be sure to go two blocks up to The Pretzel Bakery on 15th and D

Anyone in Marylnd still looking for Adventure Pack Old Line Fine Wine has about 10 cases, also about 4 bottles of Sump left on the shelf.

One place to check is the DJ liquors next to Carabas on Rt. 40 (near Home Depot). I saw Sump in there about 6 months ago. Can't vouch for it lately however. They carry some higher-end big bottles that I don't see in any other Frederick stores including Orion, Ye Olde and Frederick Wine
