I can understand the disappointment if you expected an NE IPA (as they did market it as such on social media). IMO it's more similar in style to IPAs from, say, Cigar City or FFF than Aslin or Tree House.

Yeah that's my complaint exactly. I feel they tried to capitalize on the Haze craze and it got me to buy it and it was extremely underwhelming.

Norm's still had lots of Double Barrel Jesus and Imperial Biscotti Bourbon Maple Syrup Barrel-Aged available as of 4pm today. Both were pricey- around $27 apiece.

Bought a bottle of Singlecut Heavy Boots of Lead from Craft Beer Cellar. They stated that I couldn't just buy one bottle (they limit 1pp) and they said I need to buy another beer due to some D.C. Law.
Anyone hear about this law that could provide more explanation?

I can't imagine that's true. I've definitely just bought one can of singlecut at Moms Orangic on Conn

I liked it as well. Almost like a cross between a west coast DIPA, and a NEIPA with the malty backbone. Not amazing, but certainly worth picking up.

There are some old laws in certain wards of DC that prohibit purchasing one tallboy. The more $$ parts of town are excluded. Think it was aimed at the corner store purchases by homeless people. Havent heard of anyone enforcing that in years though.

I remember a store somewhere was enforcing that on 120 Minute IPA

    Seemed like poor form?

Pretty sure Ward 2 and Ward 6 are the only places you can sell singles in DC, and you have to apply to get an exception to do so. If they're outside that, there's nothing they can do about it.

Ha, that happened to @1up at CBC so he bought a single can of Narangansett and left it on the counter. I told him he should have chugged it Stone Cold style and threw the can on the ground.

If the law was to target the corner stores, no one is enforcing it. I work 6D 7D areas and everyday I see people walking out of corner stores with one beer.
Maybe CBC using this as a tactic to make more money?
Gonna do more research on these laws

I found the law. Looks like it's true. However, CBC still allows you to break up packages , which would violate the rules. Unless I'm interpreting it wrong.
If I'm not, that means they are only enforcing certain subsections to benefit themselves.
Im not trying to mess up their business, im just trying to seek clarification if I got swindled or not. Im still gonna shop there, cause they have a pretty good selection.

If a 12 oz. is over a certain ABV limit, you can't purchase a single, you have to purchase at least 24 oz. ? or some other larger quantity. That's why a lot of the DC retailiers would have beers like Black Note, DFH 120, and others wrapped together, you would have to purchase 2. Or if they had just regular packs of 4 or 6.

That's what I remember from a retailer telling me.

We agree that the some of the liquor laws in DC, such as the import laws, are favorable to us all, while others, such as the moratorium on the sale of singles, are a bit more challenging. Our goal at Craft Beer Cellar DC is to bring you amazing beer, hospitality and education. But we’re also always going to try to follow the laws in reaching that goal.

Before we opened, we knew that we wanted to provide the mix-and-match option, so we requested an Advisory Opinion from the Board asking for clarification on the single sales ban. The Board overturned a previous ruling on the matter and in the Opinion issued, said that we may divide manufacturers’ packages and offer individually packaged containers so long as we sell no less than two containers of beer to a patron at one time. The Opinion also stated we must post signage to notify patrons that they must purchase two or more containers of beer.

We appreciate that the Board was willing to review our request and consider changes in the alcohol market. Mix-and-match allows our customers to experiment and explore various beers, breweries and styles without having to commit to 4 or 6 of something they may not like. And it allows us to sell bombers and other formats that come packaged individually from the manufacturer. We are complying with both points of the law above, and appreciate that our customers are understanding of our adherence to the law.

I’m happy to discuss the laws further in person if anyone is interested. Just stop in and ask for me. Thanks to everyone who has visited us at CBC DC, and we hope we’ll see you again.

    Stay safe out there, folks!
