Fredericksburg Total Wine got Trickery today but is supposedly sold out.

 

Hey guys, I'm in Arlington, VA this week for a conference at the Sheraton on Columbia Pike. I hit up K1 and found some decent stuff but I was wondering if there are any other good bottle shops near by. I would love to find GBS or some Death by Coconut (seems like thats what people are hunting now). All advice appreciated. Cheers!

 

Try Lost Dog a bit further up Columbia Pike. They too have a good selection and a decent place for a beer as well.

 

Start with the BA list of places near by. If you need bottles to take home the closest Total Wine will be your best bet.

But just go to Church Key (DC) or Rustico (Alexandria - closest to you) [cab it] and drink whatever is on tap!

 

I second Lost Dog, plus this is going to be your only other place nearby. I always find they tend to have the more rare or limited release stuff a bit longer than other stores. They will definitely have something good you can bring back with you.

 

Trader Joe's in Arlington is stocked with GBS and is only a few minutes away from K-1.

 

Rustico Ballston should be closer if he's on Columbia Pike.

Thanks guys, I'll try to hit up Lost Dog, Rustico, and TJ's before I leave. Any recommendations on local beers? Haven't had much from out this way except for Heavy Seas.

 

I just checked the draft menus for a few of the places you said you might check out. Here are some solid locals that you might want to try depending on your preferences:

• Lickinghole Creek Vanilla Virginia Black Bear - Rustico Ballston
  • Pretty well received imp stout with vanilla beans
• Ocelot Embrace the Loss - Lost Dog North Arlington
  • Ocelot makes the best IPAs in the area and are only available on draft or in growlers at the brewery in Dulles. Worth a try for sure
• Jailbreak Big Punisher - Lost Dog South Arlington
  • Great IPA out of Laurel, MD

Other good locals that I didn't see on draft:
- Union Double Duckpin (although I think their latest batch was from more than a month ago so it wouldn't be fresh)
- Anything else from Ocelot
- Bluejacket - They're a brewery in DC near the baseball stadium. Good sours, saisons, and mexican radio is a good stout. Probably not available outside of the brewery
- DC Brau On the Wings of Armageddon - I didn't see this on draft anywhere. Their brewery is in NE DC and a huge pain to get to, but its a solid IPA. I would just look for Ocelot stuff if you're into IPAs

Where are you from? There may be some regional beers that you can't get at home that you might like. What kind of beer do you prefer?

 

Lost Dog. K-1 got GBS but probably sold out. Check the beers stacked by the cash register. they keep the 1-per customer stuff there. Between the two you should find Alpine, AleSmith, Union Duckpin, DFH Higher Math & Fort, Black Ops, Jai A'lai, Rye on Rye, Jailbreak, LCCB Virginia Black Bear.

 

Thanks! From NY but living in CA currently. I like all styles but currently in the mood for some stouts. I don't ever see Avery barrel aged stuff near me so I picked up Rumpkin thinking it was a big pumpkin spiced stout, boy was I disappointed.

 

See what you can find from Hardywood, Lickinghole Creek, Adroit Theory (K-1 carries that, i don't think lost dog does), Alewerks, Union Craft, Jailbreak, 3 Stars.

 

For local beers, I would have to add Port City which has been reeling in the accolades of late.

 

Dominion had some Death by Coconut yesterday. Would be surprised if it didn't show up in MD this week.

 

Appears that TW Chantilly has Death by Coconut. From the picture I saw it looked like at least 6 cases.

Word is Wegman's Fairfax also has a few Trickery as of Noon today.
