Unfortunately there's a knowledge gap for me in this area. I don't know much (if anything) about the side pull except that it does create a creamier almost nitro-like mouthfeel. It also allows them to do Mlíko pours.

Of course, draft may simply taste better because the beer is fresher as well (this is an assumption, I don't actually know the dates of their kegs when I'm there obviously ).

I'm more than happy to defer to @ChrisLohring on this one. I'm curious myself.

The side-pull faucet (Lukr) helps to emphasize the level of foam per grades, or faucet notches: Often results in a creamier, silkier, deeper feel. It accentuates carbonation and enriches the aroma, more so than the standard tap or packaged good

…One could try to emulate this with patience by slow-pour, if side-pull is inaccessible

The Lukr faucet side pull pour is almost the exact opposite of the "slow pour". The side pull faucets pour dense foam first, from both the restriction of the ball valve faucet and the fine metal screen in the down spout. Then clear beer is poured under that fine foam as it rises to the top. This maintains the carbonation level of the beer. You drink crisp, bright beer through dense creamy foam. This really can't be emulated out of a can. The slow pour breaks CO2 out of solution to create a rocky head, the result is drinking through a less dense head to a beer with lower carbonation than was in the keg. I also find the slow pout to accentuate hop character more. Neither is better than the other, just different.

Not sure if your process for filling crowlers is different than for filling a glass, but have you done a side to side of a crowler vs a can of say The Standard to see if there is a noticeable difference in the beer?

    This is a bit disappointing

Our government operates so ass backwards it's infuriating. How about just requiring a food truck to be on-site. Nah, that's too easy. Let's make it harder for small businesses to survive. Hurray!

Sucks. The truck was one of the best parts of last summer for me and my fam.

it was in our town all the time and it was usually the highlight of our week. More bummed about this than a lot of other stuff that’s been 86’d

This reminds me, if/how the pandemic has affected the progress of the brighton location? @ChrisLohring

I’ve been afraid to ask about that, but I’ve been thinking about it.

On this podcast, Chris said that they hit the pause button on Brighton. The equipment is ordered, the financing is there, planning to open next year. Landlord is a non-profit so they're more about preserving the building than being profit driven, been great to work with and understanding.

I think food trucks do count, but you need a "kitchen license" as well it sounds like.

I say they give teaming up with a food truck a try. Is anyone even enforcing this stuff anyway?
I need some real clarification on the whole food truck thing though. Before Covid did you need a kitchen license to have a food truck at a brewery? Are we sure you need that now?

I’ve enjoyed all of the cans I’ve purchased from Notch, but the carbonation on all of the beers I’ve purchased at Salem has been subpar. Nothing like a draft beer.

From Rob Burns in this article on boston.com about breweries and Phase 2.

    https://www.boston.com/food/coronavirus/2020/06/03/when-will-mass-breweries-beer-gardens-open

Burns said that the Massachusetts Brewers Guild isn’t quite sure how many breweries don’t have any kind of food permit, but that most breweries within the guild are excited that “having a food truck on site appears to qualify for a Phase 2 opening.”

Didn’t you have carbonation issues with Exhibit A cans as well?

I have not had that problem at all from Notch cans. No, the cans don’t pull like a side pull pour, but my cans have been fine.

I did. Avoided them for a while and then tried them for the first time in a very long time about a month ago and I see the issue's gone.

No issue w/ my Notch cans.

Oh and BTW - for those of you who weren't thrilled with Bull in the Heather - send the rest of your cans to me. Big fan of that beer and I'm bummed I finished my last one.

Entirely possible, but I don’t recall anything specific on Exhibit A in regards to carb. Also not a brewery I buy all that often despite enjoying them. I loved the Notch cans, bought them by the case during the lockdown but the common theme across different beers was lower than expected carb. Even did purposefully aggressive pours at times so I could snap a pic.
