Session pastry lagers.... it's probably going to be a thing at some point, isn't it....

He does make a Scottish sweet stout. Something like 3.8% ABV. Awesome beer.

Psychocandy. One of my favorite/best beers regardless of brewery in the last few years. Whole bunch of goodness and flavor packed into 3.3%.

    Was it double decocted?

I like my Czech pastry dark lagers traditional.

Grabbed some of the Ungespundet this past weekend and your description fits my experience as well. Still delicious, but they are almost still by the time they are about half empty. Perhaps that's on purpose, but it's different than my (many) experiences with the Zwickle.

I totally forgot to mention it here, but I noticed the carbonation issue with the Hefeweizen.

A Hefe should obviously have a booming rocky head from the yeast. This did not happen with this beer. I’ll attach my picture right after aggressively swirling and then pouring the yeast.

Anyone been to the biergarten since it re-opened? Saw the "rules" on the FB page and was thinking about visiting this weekend.

Awesome. I'm going to pick up more of this and Tmavy this weekend. Kicking myself for only picking up a four pack of each a couple weeks ago.

Yeah I think I'll check it out on Saturday on the early side.

Ha. It's fun re-reading threads sometimes and seeing posts you "liked" that you have absolutely no memory of reading.

Anyway, just to follow up on my post for Sun Devil, it really did seem as safe as it would be possible to make things there. Tables are very well spaced out and it's only one group per table. The only possible downside would be that if it gets busy the wait would be long because there aren't many tables. We went mainly to pick up beer and being able to have a couple there was a nice bonus, so that's probably the best way to organize a trip and not risk anything.

I read how it works this morning. There's really no difference between picking up a draft there and picking up beer curbside.

I think I might actually think about grabbing a quick beer when I pick up an order. That would be my first outdoor beer/meal yet. I was going to wait until July, but this seems fairly innocuous.

Been reading the carb comments and have some thoughts. All our canned beers are 2.6 to 2.7 volumes, which is slightly higher than the 2.5 industry norm. All the beers mentioned here came in at that carb level spec. So I do not think you are taking carbonation, but maybe head formation and retention (possible lacing).

If you are "slow pouring" our can beers you are knocking out CO2, and the resulting beer will be less carbonated. We strongly suggest not slow pouring our cans - these beers were not developed for this type of pour, and are the opposite of our side pull pours a the tap room (if that is what you are trying to emulate). Again, Lukr side pull faucets (poured correctly) maintain the carbonation level and do not introduce oxygen into the beer, while slow pours decrease the carbonation level and encourage aeration. Both have their merits, one is not better than the other, but our beers are not design for slow pouring.

Also, bottled hefeweiss is typically 3.0 vols or higher, and this is not possible in a can. So that huge rocky head is difficult to achieve, and yes it's a trade off. We are toying with putting some of our lagers and German style beer in 1/2 liter bottles for this reason (sold by the crate) - would this be of interest to anyone?

Appreciate the feedback and enthusiasm. I smile every time I read this forum, because just a few years ago this level of discussion around continental styles just didn't exist, but here we are, so thanks for making it happen.

Thanks @ChrisLohring . Hand up, as I’m guilty of “slow pouring” the various lagers of yours/others that I drink at home so thanks for that direction.

And yes, would totally be interested in the format change for certain beers/styles.

Count me as interested! Although you might as well not count be due to the fact I’m 2000 miles away and rarely (sadly) get to enjoy any Notch. That being said I’d love for bottles to make a bit of a comeback. Cans are cool but I just thinks bottles have some advantages and their place with certain styles. Selling them by the crate would be icing on the cake. I really dig the 500ml bottles that Ferment in Hood River uses and it seems like I’m seeing a few more breweries go back to Standard 12oz bottles for beers they wouldn’t normally bottle. Fonta Flora and Burial come to mind with some recent releases.

Thanks for giving a fuck about lager @ChrisLohring ! Only been to your spot once but it provided a lasting memory. Hopefully I get to make it back someday soon.

Mostly a lurker here. Love Notch, going to try to snag a couple of beers after work tomorrow if it's not too crowded (save a seat for a health care worker?!); either way, I will definitely be grabbing some curbside cans to go.

Felt like I needed to just briefly respond @ChrisLohring --- Yes, bottles would be awesome, highly interested.

Now back to my lurker cave I go.
