Anyone from the Merrimack Valley heading out for the anniversary beer and willing to grab some extra beer, shoot me a DM. Happy to Venmo & pick up locally.

Love that you can order online today for weekend pickup. That feature sealed the deal for me.

Loggerhead back in 4 pack cans too.

That sealed the deal for me.

Placed an order yesterday. Anyone know what the turnaround time on orders is? They email when orders are ready for pickup, but I need to plan my drive. I want this to be a one-stop drive. Get beer, return home. That’s my plan. Since this is a bit of a drive for me, I was hoping to get a bit of lead time and a window for pick up. Hardly a big problem, but I’d like to know so I can plan best. As it is, I’ll be sitting on my hands waiting for my pick-up email. The earlier I know when to show up, the better.

I did an order a few weeks ago on a Saturday morning. Shortly after they e-mailed me that my order was "shipped". Drove down about two hours later and it was all set. Basically if it says it's "shipped" I think it's ready.

For pre-orders and pick up on a different day, not sure yet. I pre-ordered yesterday for pick up on Saturday. It said it "shipped" already. I take this to mean my order will be ready upon opening on Saturday, and can be picked up anytime that day.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers

Interesting. I have a an email receipt, but I don’t see the word “shipped” on it, just the order confirmation. I’d like to assume the beer will be ready at open, but who knows. I plan to get there around open. I’ll keep my distance/wait in car or whatever, then figure it out from there.

Thanks for the info. In simpler times, we could have walked in, I could have ordered us both a liter, and we could have talked beer and bullshit. Then we could have left with our take home cans at our leisure. Hoping we can get back to some sense of normal in a month or two. One thing is for sure: we had no idea how good we had it.

Send an email to [email protected] and we'll let you know. But if you ordered in advance of the day you are picking-up, it will be ready at the open of that pick-up day. Cheers, and thanks for the order.

Thanks Chris. I did send an email a bit earlier and I just got back a response. Great work. Look forward to coming up today and leaving with my haul. Awesome.

Just enjoyed a Desitka. If you are a fan of Pilsner Urquell, you will enjoy this very much.

Pilsner Urquell is technically a Dvanactka, because it's original gravity is 12 degrees Plato, while this beer is Desítka, and has an original gravity of 10 degrees Plato.

So The Standard is a Dvanactka, with an original gravity of 12 degrees Plato, and it is also 4.4% ABV like Pilsner Urquell.

That being said, I think PU is triple decocted, like Desítka, while The Standard is double decocted.

Neither uses Saaz hops though, Standard uses Sterling hops, while Desítka uses Sladek hops.

What color is the Desítka? To me at least, PU looks more amber in color than golden yellow, like The Standard is.

I'm going to have to do more "research" tomorrow when I pick my Desítka up.

    When is Desítka hitting disto?

I too will need to do more research. Thanks for that info.

Yesterday I had a Desitka followed by a Standard. Today, I’ll try an Urquell followed by a Desitka. I’m guessing that the triple decoction process used in both Urquell and Desitka is what makes them similar to me. Eager to try more and learn what others think too.

please report back on your thoughts... I gave my wife a Standard earlier today, and she said it was the best PU she has ever had! (we drink a lot of Pilsner Urquell) I thought about giving her a lesson on the differences, but figured it I might be able to finagle another trip to Notch soon. One of my dreams is to go back to the Czech Republic and drink my way around the country! It will be 20 years since I have been there come August.

Lagers are the last, great uncharted territory in beer for me. Been wanting to get into these styles for a while, but could never find the right motivation. So lucky to have Jacks Abby, Hill Farmstead, and Notch, among other locals, to push me into drinking these beers. I don’t know if double or triple decoction is appropriate for whatever style, but I’m loving these beers on a very basic “newbie” level. Picking up a case from notch tomorrow.

Anyone who starts digging into a particular beer style with a case purchase right off the bat earns my unconditional approval.

There’s certainly going to be overlap in my opinion. At their core they’re all Czech Pale Lagers in the 4 - 5% ABV range.

Oh so you know! I’ve been to Germany multiple times, but never the Czech Republic. My cousin went and said you can walk in and just order a Desitka. Would love to have Notch’s on their side pull tap (I believe Tenner is also a Desitka, that’s fantastic on tap).

It’s a surprisingly vast and complex territory. Welcome to the club.

Decoction is a hot debate among brewers. In my opinion it brings out the best of the melanoidin characteristics in the malt character.

But I’ve seen some studies and have heard some compelling arguments that it’s not necessary.

The list of breweries that use decoction mashing in their process also makes a compelling case for its use if you’ve had lagers from these breweries.

Notch, Live Oak, Jack’s Abby, New Glarus, Schilling...among others.

Small word. I was in Prague for a few days in October 2000. Would love to go back.

That must be really hard to go to Prague and then come back to Boston. The beers are like a dollar there.
