A couple times in the past I've had my posts about beer in NOVA in this Region moved to the South Atlantic Region. It seems quite a few threads on north VA beer end up staying here. Can we rally to move VA to Mid-Atlantic? Should a DC Metro Region be created? Should we (in the DC metro area) continue to keep our eyes on both regions? It doesn't make sense to split the state into two regions obviously, but there sure are a shit ton of NOVA posts in a Region that doesn't contain the state of VA. Thoughts?

I sure hope we can just make it DC Metro. We get decently different distribution than the 757/SE and to a lesser extent SW VA. There also isn't much of a beer scene down there in general from my personal experience (my parents live in Yorktown.) Keeping track of both sucks.

I agree loving the DC Metro idea. I have that feeling it'll never happen. I lived in DC for a while and now live in Montgomery County just outside of DC. I feel like since I've been on the site, most of the posts for VA are from people in DC or NoVA (aside from Richmond) and they usually always end up posting here. My realistic vote is that either VA get's moved to Mid-Atlantic (preferable), or DC and MD get moved to South-Atlantic. What will probably happen? We'll be told to shut up and follow both regions for the Metro area

Well I don't see DC and MD getting moved, I think being grouped with Philly is still an important thing for this area since they are so close (not that I've made the beer trip up there, but I'd like to at some point to stock up on RR shaped goodies.) Richmond has a beer scene and I do care about what Hardywood does, but outside of Hardywood it's pretty meh for me. Hardywood does a good job of updating their Facebook so it's less important for them to be up here. Maybe the solution is to do Nova posts in spirit but not in name. Almost a month ago there was a Parabola in NOVA thread that a few people posted in, including a few regulars here and our resident distribution authority Chris/Raveskdr. It got moved to South. I couldn't find it for a while until I searched as well, Parabola is relevant to my interests. It soon got pushed off the first page down there and I haven't seen it since. Fast forward to this week. Parabola in DC is posted. First 15 posts are about where to get it in DC since they got it I guess a day before NOVA but the rest is all WF/Bottle Shops in NOVA. Maybe a stupid solution is just post things like Parabola in DC/NOVA to satisfy the DC requirement while having everybody talk about where in NOVA the beer is since there are a lot more options out here than DC.

I asked about this a few weeks ago, but was told it wasn't doable. Something about every "area/region" will then want their own sub-set too (which I can understand).

Instead of being annoyed at keeping track of both, I started looking at it as a good thing. It's kinda cool to see what's going on basically all up/down the east coast. And I'll admit, there are things I've come across that I wouldn't have otherwise, had I not been "obligated" to check both forums.

Perhaps when posting about somd and nova, post it as DMV in the mid-atlantic group , covering all DC based bases. Considering DC has a unique distribution and is at techincally a 3 distro nexus I think that might be the best bet

I've always thought VA should be in the mid-Atlantic also. The information in the mid-Atlantic board is usually more relevant to me. Anything below Williamsburg is out of my reach. Not many of the breweries from the lower states get distributed here.

Really, threads related to NoVA should be left where they are originally poested by the OP...if someone posts one in the mid-Atlantic region, why would such a post be moved?

Those of us who actually live in NoVA know that it is culturally and geographically a part of DC & southern MD (i.e. "the DMV"). No matter how hard people might want forum titles to match up "neatly" with every post, undoubtedly, some will not.

While many times that might just be an error by an original poster, placing NoVA threads in the mid-Atlantic region is no error. NoVA IS part of the mid-Atlantic region...not "Dixie."

And by trying to force NoVA threads into the South Atlantic forum, those of us from NoVA will just use these regional forums less (which would be unfortunate). Because really, how often would those of us in NoVA want to see what the NC, SC, GA, or Florida beer scene is up to.

Ironically I had to move this thread to Feedback. ;-)

Regional forum breakouts and how we post in them isn't going to change and has been working just fine for over a decade.

Please post in the proper forums or your post will get moved/removed.

    Thanks.
