I was very excited to find Urban Chestnut beers on the shelf this afternoon at Julio's in Westborough. If you don't know them, they're a St Louis brewery that specializes in Bavarian style witbier. Their Schnickelfritz is really good.

Just thought I'd share that a brewery I like a lot is now in the state.

Anyone seen it in the North Shore area? The zwickel has been on my want list for a long time. Newburyport? Stoneham/Redstone?

FWIW, they did have the Zwickel at Julio's. Zwickel, Winged Nut and Schnickelfritz. Just got the Schnickelfritz, as it's one of my favorites.

Yes, it's at Redstone and Ball Square Fine Wine and Liquors, and it's amazing. It's also on tap at Redbones.

Julio's also has the mixed pack with some fruited wits and a berliner. Solid stuff, I'm guessing it flies under the radar because of the German styles, but hey more for the rest of us!

Thanks! I purchased a four pack of the zwickel at Redstone on Saturday and had one yesterday. I wasn't disappointed, and really wish there were more options for the style around here. Probably a pipe-dream, but i'll hold out hope that Jacks Abby starts canning or putting their house bier in six pack form factor.

No problem, although @Ganglani posted it first!

I had it on tap at Redbones this weekend. It's even better on tap, try it if you have the chance.

    Cheers!

Probably too much to ask that it shows up at Nerax North in casks huh?

That didn't take long. Posted today on their blog: http://jacksabbybrewing.com/blog/2015/08/house-lager/

    Plans for the future
At this point, we have announced that House Lager will become a part of our core lineup of beers. We are currently putting thought into the packaging design and format, focusing on accessibility and of course, the source of inspiration- German Brewers. For the time being, House Lager is being served by a limited number of our bar/restaurant partners as we continue to introduce it to the beer drinkers of the world (or maybe just our distribution footprint).

FYI, Urban Chestnut has returned - finally - to MA, after nearly a year away. I don't know why they haven't been around since last summer, I don't know how strongly they've returned, I only know that CBC Belmont had Schnickelfritz, Zwickel and and Dorfbier (their Dunkel) when I went in earlier this week.

This is great news. I freaking love UC.

I'm reasonably sure Redstone stocks their mix pack.

Are they here to stay this time? Does anyone know who they signed with? Cause I'm pretty sure the beer people saw last year was just a one-time drop for ACBF.

They did a tasting at CBC Belmont on Saturday. Couldn't resist picking up a pack of the Zwickel and one of the barrel-aged tripels ... You're right, really good stuff!

Another excess dump-n-run or will they contribute to the growing stale beer SKU's here in MA?

Seeing they had a tasting, seems like the latter. Tho do we really need more large format / high priced multi packs here clogging shelves & coolers?

They make a unique style of beer... I don't think anyone else who distributes to MA makes a Zwickel, at least. And their Hefe is great (although Night Shift's Furth has really impressed me, too). I'm surprised you're so turned off by them... the price isn't particularly bad, especially compared with the recent high-profile entries into the MA market of Wicked Weed and Prairie.

I wasn't aware they were gone for a year. I've definitely seen their stuff on the shelves within the last year, and have had a few bottles of the Zwickel that were still good. I suppose it could have been old stock. Now that I think about it though, I feel as though it was much better when it first year, so recent bottles in the last few months could have been old.

I had it on draft/multiple bottles of the Zwickel when it first hit, and this was one of my favorite beers I had that year (whenever it first hit MA). The new bottles hitting MA should have clear bottle dating as well, which will obviously help with indicating freshness.

Really, I'm just tired of MA being the dumping ground for everyone's excess. The only ones who benefit are a few breweries who indulge in the behavior and "What's New?" beer tickers (who are done with it after trying once).

That's a fair concern. I'm a big fan of UC, so I'm viewing it from the perspective of getting beers that I love and not having to go home to STL to get 'em. Who generally dumps excess here, out of curiosity?

Interesting. I like Urban Chestnut, but I had not noticed their appearances/disappearances in MA.
