Well... NPR probably meant well, but didn't do their homework quite well enough. Fresh tips, not old xmas tree clippings are best. My juniper beer is going to be ready in a couple weeks. I can't see any reason why I wouldn't try a spruce beer sometime. However, I'd make certain to get the fresh tips.
