Session IPA is like when someone tries to make a meatless version of a dish, probably sucks like Tofurkey (I assume tofurkey sucks), will be surprising when it's good.

Other styles, that have been developed over years to be low ABV are probably good, like Chana Masala, celebrating what it is, not trying to cover up for what it's not.

There are great beers out there before the session term that could now be considered session beers. Most Samuel Smith beers are at or below 5%(oatmeal stout, taddy porter are world class). Boston lager is only 4.9%... I think some of these beers that we don't think of as session are more enjoyable than the new line of session beers.

I don't think I'd be able to turn off the radio if a station existed for beer news, interviews, and feature stories NPR-style.

"At 2 o'clock we'll hear from Paul Arney of Ale Apothecary and his thoughts on malt terroir, but first this report from our Washington desk about the newly released 2014 hop harvest..."

To be fair there are many classic English IPAs and bitters that are low ABV and would meet today's idea of "session IPA." For example Greene King IPA is 3.6% ABV and has been brewed for over 100 years. "Session IPA" is a new label on an old concept that Americans are rediscovering, but regardless it might not be your cup of tea. And yes, there are other non-hoppy low-ABV styles that can be really tasty too, but Americans love their hops, so that's what gets the attention.

I love me a Go To IPA or an All Day IPA but this time of the year its hard to find them relatively fresh. Summer time I have a case of All Day on standby its nice to kick back a few with feeling it

I try not to get caught up in the "session" moniker, especially since it's use seems to be a on a wider ABV range than you'd think. To me, Notch Pils is an exceptional Pils (with the added bonus that it's 4%) Same with All Day IPA and Left of the Dial.
