It depends, I think. Like, I'm not the biggest wine drinker despite having been raised in a major wine growing region - my father is totally into wine, though. And some stuff is well worth the money (like the Italian Barrique my father stocks for special occasions) - others are not. Some of the best stuff I've had yet were relatively cheap Belgians and some Bockbiere.

i paid $19.99 for a 4 pack of 2013 BCBS today, and I was really pumped about it.
Same store had Bois for $40, eff everything about that.
In conclusion, yes I'm probably numb to the pricing to a degree.

I had a chat about this with my bro today he is much wiser than most of y'all.

We surmised that Sculpin has gone from 80$ a case to 65$ to 51$ today..

Founders Centennial has gone from 45$ to 35$ a case of cans right now..

Founders Breakfast Stout a world class beer languishes on the shelf at 65$ a case..

The general theme is that "aint nobody got time for that" overpriced stuff...

I paid $15.99 for 4 pack of Dirtwolf tonight. $12.99 for a 6 pack of Laginitas undercover investigation. I had previously refused to pay that for the Dirtwolf, so I split it with a friend. It was worth every penny.

our hobby could be wine... that's expensive. No one would think twice about spending $20 on a bottle of wine, but spend that on a bomber and everyone loses their minds.

My budget is $25 a week for beer. For that I can get a mixed six at my bottle shop and leave that ginger cutey with koi tattoo a couple of bucks for a tip so he remembers to put my favorites by for me.
    The break down this week:
    • Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout $3.39, splurge of the week but I do love it so.
    • Ommegang Scythe & Sickle $3.09
    • Southern Tier Porter $2.09
    • Terrapin Liquid Bliss $1.99
    • Blue Pants Slip Rose Saison $1.79
    • Bell's Porter $1.89

If I want something bad enough I will not drink for a week to save up for it. Now there's $20.00 put to good use. A pleasant half hour in my favorite store where I am well treated and probably between the pouring, drinking, analyzing, reviewing, inexpert photographing and spread sheet entry I will have bought 4-6 pleasant hours for myself to be split up as I have inclination and opportunity. Three of these I know I will love. Three of them are new. It's a good system.

Honestly I spend more money at the pet store. Darn those beguiling tropical fish and fancy catnip mice - price gouging!

^ this. But 5 bucks for a bomber is on point I think. 30 bucks for a Pliny is not. If you make good money though who cares.

Some beers do cost a lot to produce. Especially some of the fruits and things brewers are adding along with barrel aging. But $30 bombers are just outrageous and anyone that buys them is just letting them think it's acceptable. I think most of us have over paid at some point but now I realize how silly it is. I saw a whole shelf full of founders dissenter at 14.99.Let em sit I say!

Ugh, I thought I was the only one with this strange problem. I do the same thing with my expensive bottles of Single Malt Scotch. WTH?

I just bought track 8, Founders Dissenter, and FW DDBA all at once for $59 total. I just drank the Dissenter and it was awesome. Other two will be in the cellar for a while.

I know what you are saying but many if not most wineries grow all or at least a portion of the grapes they use which requires the property and the effort to grow the grapes. I don't know of any breweries growing their own barley and hops

I wish I COULD be numb to pricing but not so much. At all. Lol. I bought a bomber for $7 and it hurt my pocket. I usually try to stick to 12 oz bottles that are under $5. One day I will be able to splurge more often. Funny enough, my favorite beer of all time is only $2.50/12 oz. Pretty sweet.

For me the price tag has become an evaluation factor-- just like considering the nose, the flavor, mouthfeel and others.
Many of the bombers seem like they're overpriced-- it's one thing to enjoy a fantastic first class craft brew and another when returning to the packie for more and thinking "I paid that much for beer?"

But in the end it's like everything else these dayz-- gasoline pushing $4 a gallon a stop at the pump $65 is a fill-up, $100 at the grocery store doesn't cover a week's comestibles-- I just dropped $60 for lunch-- sandwiches for two and two beers each, so maybe $12 a crack for many top notch craft brew bombers isn't out of line.

But it seems that beer price tags are starting to converge with entry level wines. For me wine has become a diversion away from the world of beer..

Those PBR tall boys claim a more coveted place in my beer drinkers' heart.

For the most part, it's no worse that buying drinks in any mid/upper restaurant, high end bar, or club in Atlanta, Miami, etc...or at least that's my rationalization...

I did the same with a $14 bottle of Brewdog Cocoa Psycho. Brought two bottles to the counter and the bill was $31. Never go beer shopping buzzed and thirsty.
