Not at all. I frequently back off beers because they are just too expensive. I haven't bought a bomber in a while now that I think of it. A good example of how it goes down happened just a bit ago. I love Pretty Things and when I had their IPA (Meadowlark) I really enjoyed it. I was hoping to buy more someday. I saw a bomber this very afternoon on the shelf for $7.69. Did I want it? Hell yeah. But there was a six pack of Torpedo sitting right next to it for a dollar more. I bought the Torpedo and have zero regrets about it. A large amount of great beer is better than a small amount of excellent beer. I don't subscribe to that motto with food, but with beer I most definitely do.

    My 12 packs costs between 12 and 14$. Don't buy many 22's.

BMC drinkers think $5 bombers are expensive.

I bought a bottle of "Séance" from Magic Hat in order to try it for the first time. Another customer said "$4 a bottle wow" I said, without trying to sound like a beer snob, "I like to try new things and I like the fact that this place allows you to buy singles so that I can try something without having to buy a six pack or a case" He just nodded. He was buying a magnum bottle of "Budweiser" I figured that he would not understand the craft scene. I can't think of a way to explain it without sounding pretentious.

When bomber pricing gets around ten bucks, then I start hesitating.

I can't even find Founders "Breakfast Stout" in my area most of the time. When I do it is close to $100 per case. If I saw a four pack for $7.99 I would jump all over that.

I start to think about it at that level, but it hasn't stopped me yet. I can certainly understand price being an issue though, and I do believe some beers are unfairly priced. So, only buy what you want and can comfortably afford, yes?

I find ways of justifying an expensive purchase. I'll think, "Well, this bomber is triple the ABV % of (insert beer name here) and at the bar one of these would cost (insert bar price here) ...". It's like a math equation almost. So in the end, you can say I'm numb to beer pricing, but I try to find ways to make it not look that expensive relative to other things so I don't feel as bad.

I do the exact same thing.

I don't mind drinking a beer that is 11% ABV and costs $3-4 per 12 oz., when the local bar / restaurant charges the same for a 4.2% bottle of Bud Light.

I bet he has spent almost ten bucks on a "value" meal at a local McDonalds or BK... I think peoples ideas of value these days are proportionately out of whack.

Considering I paid $7 last night for an awful AAL at a concert, I had no qualms paying $10 when I found DFH120 today for the first time.

Exactly right. They seem to go out their way to sell bombers at reasonable prices. The bomber is a great way to try out new beers, but always presents a problem if you price it out against a six pack (or 4 pack). Bombers will never be a bargain, but I wish other breweries could structure their pricing more like Lagunitas.

Since RR doesn't distribute to Maryland, I don't think he'd have any way to stop the store. Now the ATF could shut him down for violating distribution laws. Guarantee that bottle didn't come from a distributor.

Speaking of overpriced RR, I saw some of their stuff going for 40 euro in Amsterdam. Not pliny, either.

As for the original question, $5 for a bomber isn't that bad. Dude's just used to cheap beer, I guess.

I wonder where so many of you are finding five dollar bombers. Where I'm from craft beer prices are hefty and I factor the price into the beer enjoyment-- and price really weighs down the enjoyment factor. I have trouble reaching for $15 bombers-- on top of that I have to tank it in one sitting. Six packs here are wallet draining too.
I live in a tax happy state- those PBR tall boys look ever more enticing.

I spent $18 on Supplication and kinda had to take a step back from buying those types of beers for a while. Enjoying 6 packs and shelf beers is alot easier and less stressful on the wallet.

I buy a lot of bombers, and if it's under $10, it's a bargain. I think that speaks more to what I'm buying than where I live.

Yetis are around $8 I think, and DFH Blue and White etc are closer to $13. No big deal.

Twenty-two ounces is a fair amount of beer. I pay a lot more than $4.99 for DFH 120 or Ola Dubh 12-ouncers.

I was at Paul's Liquors in Cayucos, CA this past week. He had about 3 bottles of Firestone Walker Anniversary Ale 15. He wanted $70/bottle. I wanted to drink it, but that's where I draw the line. He also had DBA for $35/bottle, when Bevmo in San Luis Obispo had it for $15. Don't know if this guy just hordes bottles and boosts the price. A little odd, especially when the brewery itself is about a 30 min drive.

You know what, $30 for a pliiny is ridiculous, but its more the nerve of the vendor that annoys me. Being from the DC area, Ive driven to Philly to get a pint of Pliny and that cost me way, way more than $30 (gas, tolls and a night doesn't end after one beer). So would i pay $30 for a bottle? Possibly, but i would hate the guy who sold it to me just about as much as i loved him. As for the guy who said it was a violation of distribution laws, I dont think DC works that way. A vendor can drive out and buy any beer he wants and sell it in the district. Ive seen some really rare beers that never make it out this way in DC stores before, but they are always priced like that pliny.
