My dad has always been the type of person to buy equate shampoo instead of head and shoulders. After dealing with that for so long, whenever i buy something, its the good stuff. I never want to deal with el cheapo stuff again unless its good. Coors light i buy and its cheap but thats because i like it. I also buy things like founders and Guinness and sierra nevada. When i buy things to eat and drink i buy the best i can get. Price is no problem for me as long as its reasonable. If its a world class beer for 5 dollars i'll gladly pay for it. Same with my whiskey, rum, and vodka. I'll pay more for good quality.

No, I'm not numb to it yet. I'm even dropping my font size down to keep my expenses low. Budget, budget, budget!

I have no problem paying $20 or more for a limited release bomber. The problem is then I can't bring myself to drink them!Stupid, I know.

I have been drinking craft beer a long time...but only more recently (last couple years) venturing into barrel aged beers, expensive Belgian beers and DIPAs etc. But I've been a wine drinker for a long time too. Here's the way I try to look at it. For say $14-16 I can get a barrel aged stout or barleywine from Clown Shoes. This is comparable in quality to probably a $25-30 bottle of wine. For $25 a four pack, I can get BCBS or BCBW. This is easily comparable to a $50-75 bottle of wine, probably more than that. Four 16oz Heady Toppers for $14 is a huge bargain in quality for price.

So compare those "expensive" beers to alternative beverages, wine, cocktails, straight booze, whatever, and make your decision.

I'm right there with you, One of the Caseys, and try to politely hold onto a pricey beer for a local gathering, but I find with the continuing rise in the amount of local beer events, scheduling a simple tasting can be tricky and fraught with many "what about X beer dinner, brewery event, etc." criers. So, I eventually drink the beer out of pure spite.

Somewhat numb. I pretty much stick to 12ozers, and 1.50-4.00 at the most seems to be the usual range for individual bottles, the latter end will give me pause for thought. I have however, learned that if there is NO price on an individual bottle, you probably don't want to know. Thank you $16.00 WWS for that lesson.

I'm not numb to it but I am not going to go overboard at one time either. I am comfortable paying $20/$30 for a limited release/favorite beer. Am I going to buy 5 at a time, probably not. Like @HuskyHawk said, it is comparable to a nice bottle of wine when you go out to dinner. However, since moving to NJ it helps that 90% of the restaurants are byob.

limited and expensive does not equal good.

A lot of people seem to lose sight of that

IMHO no packaging format did more to elevate the status of beer than the 22oz bottle (aka bomber). However, packaging alone does not indicate quality - and consumers have rapidly realized a 22oz bottle of good beer for $8 is simply not a good deal when you can get an entire 6pack of great beer for $12 or less.

I spent $13 on a 4-pack of Curmudgeon tonight. Then again, I plan on drinking one tonight and "cellaring" the others for a while. My LBS got one more case of it today and I grabbed one of the last 4-packs they had.

I kinda really like this beer...

I don't really care that I'm spending all of my extra money on not very much beer, but the guy at the bottle shop does apparently. Also, he thinks that anything not BMC is an import.

That is very true. The problem is that it's hard to know what limited beers are good until you drop the cash on them. The bigger problem is that when reading reviews of limited beers it seems most overrate them so you drop cash on them. I've had some great beer that was $15-$20 a bottle and I've had some swill too.

Only bombers I'll buy are the one's you can only get in bombers...hop stoopid. The way I see it, with lagunitas and some other well priced stuff you can get close to drunk for $10. That's good enough for me. I'll drink the higher priced stuff once but stick to two hearted and anything lagunitas. For the money they're the best beers out there.

It's not an ongoing numbness. For trying new beers, I'll open up the wallet or when I am adding to the cellar.

I'll make sacrifices in other areas to balance out what I spend on beer.

I used to think paying $10 for a 4 pack was insane. Now I buy DirtWolf/Scream when I am trying to save cash.

It's all relative. Things are worth only what you are willing to pay for it. The thing that gets me is price gouging that happens. I had a local store tell me he wanted 450.00 each for a case of 11' and 12' DFH 120 and with a straight face say that was a great deal.

IF you're worried about the price, pass and maybe stick to BMC. I don't care what the price is, if you want to ride the roller coaster at six flags you gotta pay the price of admission. No different with craft brew. Life is way to short to eat and drink the cheap stuff
