    Hello everyone;

    at the end of the month I will be in the Nuremberg's area for a few days and in Herzo for business. So I was wondering what are the good spots for beers in the area (pubs, bar, brewpub etc). Last time I was there a few months ago I did not find anything great unfortunately.

    So all suggestions are welcome

    thx

    Ride up the rail to Forchheim and then to Bamberg. Nuernberg is not the greatest by any stretch. That said, when you are in town, go to Landbierparadies. They have a great selection from all around Franconia. But nothing beats drinking from the source at the individual brewery taprooms.

    There is even (gulp) "CRAFT BEER" (in the US sense) brewed now in NBG and around, and you can get several examples at Landbierparadies, though if it is your first time, you should definitely check out the traditional styles like Dunkles, Kellerbier, Bock, Rauchbier etc first. Thouse you can't get anywhere else in such a quality and variety...

    Landbierparadies has both a shop with a huge selection of franconian beers for dirt cheap, and a nice pub as well, in which they serve always one franconian Landbier from "bayerischer Anstich" in a very rustic atmosphere. For me, the next best thing to actual going to the countryside.

    Herzogenaurauch itself used to have at least one brewery, Brauerei Heller, not sure if it is there anymore.

    In Nuremberg itself, Altstadthof is one of the better german brewpubs, they make an excellent Schwarzbier and are situated near the castle, so you will pass by it probably anyway when visiting the city.
    Down the hill from the castle, Hütt'n is also a nice pub that serves a wider selection of franconian beers.

    Recently, Schanzenbräu is recieving more and more attention. It's in the most hipster part of town. Last time I had their beer though, it was ok, but way inferior to the gems brewed in the countryside. Maybe it improved, I don't know.

    But yeah, visiting cities like Forchheim or Bamberg is highly recommended, as herrburgess said.

    I second Hütt'n in Nurnberg... nice place - decent bier list and solid food. Another good bottle shop in NUE is Die Bierothek....

    Best of luck!!

    Prosit!

    While all of these places (brewpubs) are acceptable enough, they completely pale in comparison of both beers and experience to any of 300 places you could get to with a shortish car/bus/train ride. Lets be honest....
