Interesting. I visited the brewery a few years ago. As the brewery name suggests it’s in a Schloss / Palace, quite an interesting venue to drink beer. Never found the beers that outstanding although always solid.

It would be interesting if you tried it again on another day whether it would be as good - that’s the beauty of beer, we don’t drink it in a vacuum.

Bartender told me it was a World Gold Medal winner in 2016 I think it was so must be decent? Maybe my palate isn’t that bad?

I’m not sure your perceived ‘bad’ palate or the gold medal have anything to do with it. You enjoyed it. That’s what counts

Certainly did, not just one! :-)
I just love finding a beer that I had absolutely no expectations about as he poured it then find it hit the spot and then some. It was after the 2nd one I held the conversation with the bartender and the conversation we held just added to the enjoyment.

Great times, you are a very fortunate man Jason to have such quality in your doorstep and to live in such a fantastic town.

Is Hebendanz still full of nutters? I really love Neder, myself. Great atmosphere and great beer.

We were only at either for a little bit. We only had one at Neder, as we felt unwelcome there.

Always felt that I fitted right in at Neder. Could be to do with my age.

Hebendanz was refurbished around 5 years ago or so and now it’s quite different. Good food and comfortable but without the nutters, a few of which have decamped to Neder. The others frequent the other hebendanz pub in town, the name of which escapes me.

It was in November, we were the only Auslanders in there, and were treated as such. The drunk kids in the Schwimme on our way out were happy to talk with us for a little while.

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Neder. Highly recommend a visit. Can't wait to get back there.

30 years ago this month I visited Nuremberg with several friends for the weekend. we made a side trip up to Erlangen and visited the Kitzmann brewery. I got 2 nice ceramic mugs as souvenirs and sampled some biers. I remember liking the Jubi most. sad news.

Hausbrauerei Altstadthof I will second. The brewery is very very small though so go at an offtime. I was only in Nuremberg for a night but its cool to walk through the city at night. So much great architecture.

Nor can I, but I know I procured the compact bottle openers at our hotel in Würzburg, so it was probably the beer I ordered at the hotel bar after our long and winding trip from Berlin (with a side-trip to Schweinfut in a failed attempt to visit some US GIs we met in Munich -- they were on duty and unavailable).

I'd been one of the drivers, so I was exhausted and needed a beer. Everyone went upstairs to shower, so I had a beer at the bar and bought a couple bottles to take upstairs for my old college friend and me. Bar-tender gave me the opener and there was another in the room. I've kept them as handy openers in camera bags and at the grill ever since -- what, 1990? Wow, almost 30 years. Maybe @25Comical and I crossed paths!

I managed a tour of the cellars in September and enjoyed their beer and Whisky. Fascinating underground. Did the tour with 15 Germans and there was something a bit funny about being under there with them! :-)

Also managed to procure a Kitzmann Krug last year while at the Berg. Might be worth something in years to come. :-)

To be honest I couldn't care less about Kitzmann compared to the sad news that Brauerei Krug in Geisfeld has closed this week. A true brewpub that didn't even bottle their beer. Great Brotzeit too.

I have not yet found out the reason(s).
