Sounds like you all had a great time. Sure hope I'm home for the next one!

While I appreciate your and @vurt's loyal defense, it must be admitted that when I uttered that brief remark, it was in the middle of one of the many long and tedious sermons I forced everyone to endure yesterday afternoon...

Which reminds me... @jpbebeau, please don't forget to tell @distantmantra what an insufferable gasbag I was when he returns from his travels abroad. Perhaps I'm alone in this sentiment, but I look forward to bending your ear again - and maybe even his, too - on some future day.

Soooo... have thought about this long and hard, and I hope my post doesn't cause any undue embarrassment on the part of our host... but I just felt it necessary to pass this along. (in view of a previous comment made in a different thread, suggesting that Texwild is only concerned with the bottom line, and doesn't care about his employees).

While waiting for my ride to arrive (along with Edwardabbey and 66jzmstr), we were all chatting together, and I noticed texwild gathering up the remaining pizza boxes, as well as the donations made by the beershare participants (texwild purchased roughly 20 pizzas, and there was a jar/bowl on a nearby counter for contributions to help defray the cost of the pizzas). We'd put a sizeable dent in the pizza provisions, but even so, there was still plenty of pizza left over from the share. I ambled over to see if I could provide any assistance, and also mentioned to him that should there be any shortfall on the cost of the pizza's he'd purchased and provided, I'd be happy to help him out with that. I was pretty sure that really wouldn't be necessary, as it appeared the participants had been more than generous; but even so, 20 or so pizzas is 20 or so pizzas. Texwild mentioned that he planned to bring over the remaining pizza to the staff handling the BA UT release event, and as for the money in the donations jar, he planned to simply dump it all in the tip jar (we're talking about a minimum of $200, and from what I saw, it was more like in the $300 to $400 range).

I've been to a whole bunch of BA shares over the years, and extreme generosity on the part of participants is definitely the rule, rather than the exception. Even so, this level of generosity just isn't the sort of thing you see all that often. At least not in my experience. Anyway, just felt it necessary to pass on this story, and to once again extend my thanks and appreciation to our incredibly generous host.

I'll make sure to do that. I'm sure a quieter evening with beers and conversation can be arranged upon his return.

Edit: oh, and because you had expressed interest in my activities today:

It was hot. And after 6 miles and 3500' of elevation gain, this was one of the few times I wished for a 12oz can of beer instead of 16oz. (Mostly for drinking...though I did carry the damn things.)

As a direct eyewitness to this, I can fully corroborate the account. And it was far from the only act of extraordinary generosity we all saw yesterday, or which was plainly evident by our being at the brewery at all on an unusually important and busy day for our host.

Call me crazy, but based on this personal experience and the company's track record over several years, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Fremont only cares about "min profitz," and just doing, instead, what's good and right. By their employees, their customers, their neighbors, the farmers and vendors they work with, their "competitors" in the industry (whom they view, rather, as compatriots), and, of course, by the beer they produce. If they ever fail in this, it is not, in my estimation, for lack of trying or a profoundly committed heart...

It's certainly trendy to support small businesses, but to me this is what it's all about: the genuinely good people behind the scenes who can do what they believe in without answering to stockholders or anyone else. Although I've never met the man, @Texwild has made me a huge fan of Fremont Brewing as a company. I appreciate the value they place on employees, environment, and community but wouldn't know about any of it without this forum.

Generosity should never be taken for granted, but nothing about these stories is very surprising given his track record. I'm glad you shared the story, @John_M, because it's always great to hear about people doing kind things with nothing in it for themselves. Maybe the world isn't so bad after all.

I sat on our Riad's rooftop drinking my BIL's homebrew Russian Imperial Stout with local figs last night around midnight (still 92 out wtf) reading these comments along with Untappd and Instagram, seriously impressed by all the awesomeness back home.

Sounds like a great time by all. Just the little bit I know of Matt, doesn't surprise me one bit the hospitality he and Fremont provided. Thanks again.

Watching 2 soccer matches, of 8 year olds, in 90 degree weather, was so much better.

And fess up guys, who all jumped into the glitter tub??

I live in Texas, never had any intent to show up to this share, but have to admit that I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread over the last several weeks. Very interesting and cool to see the NW forum members put something like this together, and big time props to Fremont. This makes me like these guys more than I already do! Well done guys.

    Cheers!
